We were really late in reaching Matheran and had underestimated the long walk uphill to the Fleetwood House...however the saving grace was that we were constantly being guided on the phone by Dipesh..including the time we were lost on the Pune- Mumbai expressway! Nevertheless we had hot steaming food laid out and warm water in the showers to freshen up. The beauty of fleetwood house is that it is on one end of Matheran..far far away from the boisterous weekend crowds seen in the heart of the town. The next two days were spent just soaking up the place and getting its rhythm..grub was simple vegetarian wholesome fare and delicious..our daughter had a blast with the in-house horses, donkey and 7 dogs..not to forget the numerous marauding monkeys. She was also fortunate to get real riding lessons from an Olympian rider at the farm. The real treat was of course ,Mrs Nihalani who went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and had a great stay...she really goes the extra mile to make the stay memorable. I would strongly recommend this place to anybody who enjoys his peace and quiet..wants to be away from the noisy spots and loves animals.
