Personally in my more than 1.5 million kilometres of travel have I experienced something so wonderful . I have seen many places big and small but this was really special .I will rate only two places in India above this, where nature has been more captivating - THE GLACIAL HEIGHTS ABOVE THE NUBRA VALLEY IN LADAKH and the largest inhabited river island of the world MAJULI in Assam. A hand pulled boat ride of an hour plus along the natural marble rocks was captivating to say the least. It was not only romantic but also very very meditative to be able to go along the river which meandered through the natural marble rocks. The hand pulled boats provide jobs to approximately 100 boatmen and do not use any fossil fuels or pollute the environment. I suggest , it is ok to give an additional tip over and above the authorized rates to the boatmen only for the fact that they are not adding to the environmental pollution. The boatmen also double up with with some delightful running commentary in Hindi which is amusing as well as entertaining. A visit to the place including the main water falls of Bedhaghat by a private taxi will cost you approx 1200/- rupees with an exclusive all to yourself boat ride another 1000/- rupees . A little distance away is the main water falls called DHUYADHAR ( Smoking Frothing Fury) . Here the Narmada River tumbles down a plateau like ridge which is very beautiful to watch from the top.
This is best seen from an overhead cable car. Each ticket on the cable car cost 70/- rupees, the cable car seats four. The place can be much better organized and made cleaner and neater. There are a lot of small marble handicrafts to be picked up as souvenirs and since the money helps the local artisans buying some contributes to the local economy . The boat ride through the marble rocks is also allowed on full moon nights. Overall , a trip to Jabalpur with a visit to the marble rocks and a overnight journey to the Bandhavgarh Tiger reserve is well break and visit worth every dime . Most highly recommended . .
