Amazing place....We had a lovely time at Volkot and will be definitely going back. Lovely hosts and excellent traditional coorg food served. Far away from all the noise and pollution a perfect holiday...

Nakoor Volkot is a nice home-stay in a coffee estate on the way from Kushalnagar to Madikeri. We booked the estate for 2 nights in mid-July via Mahindra Homestays. With practically no reviews to go with, we were in uncharted territory.

The first problem is locating the estate - roads leading to it are non-existent on online maps. So we had to trouble our hostess for directions. Here they are. Mysore-Madikeri is one of the nicest and scenic 2-laned state highways you will find. While travelling from Mysore, after Kushalnagar, but around 2km before you reach SuntiKoppa, look out for estates with white and blue fence on both sides of the road. You have to take the next right turn to a small road (not shown on online maps) leading into the many estates.

The estate with its blue and white fence will accompany you some distance on this road as well. The road is decent with estates on both sides. Keep following the main road (approx 3-4kms), till a big/high BSNL transmitter is visible. Take the next right to a smaller, paved road, and look out on your left (after 500 meters) for a gate with 'Nakoor Volkot' on it. This is where the hosts live. You take the next unpaved path on your left. This bit may be a little treachorous for smaller vehicles, specially if it rains.

Anyhow, you have to cover some 500m like this on a stony, slushy path. Take left at a T-junction, and the place should be visible.

Once you are there, you are inside a small coffee estate. You have a decent sized 2-BR house to yourself (shared if another party occupies the other bed-room). The rooms are large (we could easily accommodate a family of 3 adults + 2 small children in our alloted bed-room), bathrooms clean, and to top it, a kitchen which is very large, and well equipped. Don't expect u-waves or ovens. You also have a very comfortable TV and dining area, and a front porch to relax in.

You also have a caretaker who will unobtrusively look after your every need. The hosts are gracious, will guide you to the best of their ability on how to plan your holiday, will take you around the estate, and do utmost to make you feel at home.

Its some 10-15 kms from Madikeri. So if your holiday means covering all the 'spots' around Madikeri, it may be tiresome. But, if you have come to relax, and enjoy nature and greenery, this is definitely the place to come to.

The place is only advisable if you are coming with your own vehicle. A 4WD is advisable in slushy months. Vodafone doesn't have coverage here. BSNL does.
