“2 nights @ mongas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We opted for Mongas as it was ranked 3rd on tripadvisor and the other 2 options were completely booked. Mongas has good location 150m from Gandhi chowk and mall road. Its rooms are large. The wood work is done at local furniture shop, so you can guess the quality. All rooms have decent size bathrooms and large closets, a couch and a table. So in winters you can enjoy your meals in the room.

All rooms have LCD, with lower end rooms having small size ones - guess it was 19 inch or 22inch. The attic rooms had 32 inch LCD. But do mind it that we stayed during Xmas 2012 and the attic rooms were colder than the lower end rooms. So even though our budget allowed us attic, we chose the ones lower than that.

The geysers in the room are smaller and only one person can take a bath and then the geyser needs to be kept on for 30 minutes before the next person can take a bath. the reason is that the water is very very cold, probably only applicable to winter months.

Also noteworthy is the fact that all the rooms have large windows and the glass is ordinary and can't keep the cold out. So you need to opt for heaters which are available on chargeable basis - small and large. We took the small one and it was sufficient to keep the room warm.

The doors also need to be insulated as the gaps are large and cold air can come in. So better ask for some cloth which can improve the insulation.

The food was very good, the staff was very friendly. Especially the person who was taking care of us - Kishore was very very friendly. Smiling all the time and ensuring that small things which make all the difference were well taken care off.

During the morning of the day when we were checking out, there was a group which had arrived and electricity had failed in the area. So the overall situation was looking as if it had gone out of control. however the smile on the staff's faces was still there.

Ensure that you make the payment in cash, as even though there is the option of credit card payment, it fails to settle the transaction at the merchant end and the credit card company will debit your account anyway.

Overall with a topsy turvey experience I am still bent to recommend this property as there aren't any good hotels close to Gandhi chowk as Mongas.

Room Tip: Don't opt for attic in winters. It is costly and more cold than other rooms.

I was in Dalhousie with my wife in the month of November. We had booked a guest house for stay there but the location of the guest house ensured that we had to look for an alternative. (Though the guest house would have ensured we lost at least 2-3 kgs a day :D). We saw a few hotels and finally decided to check into the Hotel Mongas after talking to the owners.

Hotel is located very close to the Gandhi Chowk which makes it very convenient; since Gandhi chowk is where all the good restaurants and shops are located. The room was excellent with a beautiful view of the valley. Room service was exceptional at all times except for once when there was a slight delay in delivering food in the room. The suggestions from Mr. and Mrs. Monga helped us plan our day trips in a much better way. Though we visited a few places which Mongas had suggested that we skip; we found that we could have very well avoided these places. The owners and staff at Mongas are friendly at just the right level and they go to great length to make you feel comfortable and happy.

All in all a fantastic experience.
Thank you everyone at Hotel Mongas for making our stay a beautiful experience that we'll cherish for the rest of our lives.

We stayed in this hotel on 12 Dec 12. The hotel is located on khajjar road just 7 mins walk from the Gandhi chowk but you cannot walk from the bus stand. Taxi should charge Rs 100-150 to the hotel. Rooms are spacious and have good view of the valley. We stayed in the wooden cottage room which is their luxury room. It has a nice cozy feeling to it. The food is great and so is the service and even the standard rooms are good with a good view. i would recommend this hotel for a nice comfortable and pleasant stay.

Room Tip: choose the rooms on the top floor which has the best view.

I happened to visit Dalhousie with my husband a few days back. I checked out Hotel Mongas facebook page http://www.facebook.com/hotelmongas and instantly liked the hotel. The room pictures were so beautiful! When we reached there, we found out that the reality was not different from what was portrayed in the pictures. Rooms were really clean, tidy and extremely well-done. We stayed there for 3 nights and I must mention that the staff made every bit of our stay worthwhile. They were fantastic, to say the least! Extremely well-behaved, cordial and courteous! Service was super-quick, even though they were busy with the renovation going on in certain parts of the hotel.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the owners of the hotel, Mr Karan Monga and Mrs Nitika Monga for their personal touch. They were really nice and took great care of us.
Thanks to the wonderful stay in this hotel. It made a great contribution in making this trip memorable for me and my hubby.

Room Tip: Ask for the attic room. It is really beauiful. It has a wooden theme and gives the typical feel of...

I stayed with my family comprising 5 adults and 1 child (infant). Prior to booking we checked out their rooms on the website and liked their Attic rooms for their ambience and comfort - which is among the higher priced rooms. I had spoken to the owner himself and was promised two attic rooms along with extra bed in one of the room on M.A.P basis for 14,000/- for 2 nights and 3 days. Other standard rooms were fully occupied (not available), and because we had particularly liked the attic rooms, I even transferred an advance sum of 5000 to confirm my booking. I even called and confirmed the availability of attic rooms before arriving in dalhousie. I was gauranteed by their staff about providing attic rooms as seen on the website. But to my dismay, on my very first day I was checked into ordinary rooms (which were far less luxurious than the attic rooms). The bathrooms were not even properly functional. Water pressure was very low in the health faucets and Showers and water doesn't even remain hot enough to complete one person's bath also. The hotel staff and managers were very rude and uncourteous and behaving like they were doing people a big favour in every action of theirs. After talking to the owner I was shifted only next day to the attic room. Definitely the room and bathroom was much better than the previous one - even though continuous hot water still remained an issue.
The food was pretty average and nothing too great or tasty. Before booking we had enquired with the owner whether the food was buffet system / ala-carte. We were told that it was ala-carte but we were free to order anything on their ala-carte menu card provided in the room. But in reality the staff were coercing us into ordering only the least priced items on their menu in any category - be it soups, curries etc. Even a basic/simple starter were refused to us saying not part of package. Quite contrary to what was informed to us earlier. Just because we were on a M.A.P package deal, the staff behaved as though they were providing food for free (like charity) and therefore we should take only what they suggest or provide. While booking they say one thing and once you are there they treat differently which made us feel a bit cheated overall. Even basic courtesies/gestures like a small welcome drink which is usually part of 2n/3d packages were not extended to us. Only positive note - the rooms/beds/linens etc are generally clean, spacious and well maintained. They provide a nice ambience. After all this fancy pricing of their room, it is not even equipped with a room heater - which becomes a basic necessity during the nights in a cold place such as Dalhousie. Ask them and they levy extra charges even for that !!
This is neither in the league of a budget hotel which gives value for money nor a luxury hotel which provides a certain standard quality of service that makes the customer feel happy after all, despite having high charges. Go there only if you don't get good accomodation elsewhere - because in this price range you can get better hotels in Dalhousie and putting this another way - you can get comparably decent hotels which meets most of your requirements for a lesser price. So overall, I suggest stay away from this hotel - its not worth it !!

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay . Comments like yours enable us to continuously improve the quality of our daily performance. I regret to read that the hotel’s staff was not as courteous as they should have been. There had been bit confusion over the category of room chosen. As per our understanding you opted for a spacious room, next day when we learnt that you weren't comfortable we offered you the attic. Your concerns regarding hot water have been brought up to and fixed. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the same. We shall make every effort to deliver higher and improved standards to our guest.
