“Rhino watching”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2014

A sanctuary which is just 1 and half hour drive from Guwahati city. It is a perfect setup for one day outing with friends and family. You can spot a Rhino very easily as they are present in abundance. Safari in this sancturay can be done on Elephant in the morning and Gypsy entire day. There is a restaurant cum bar near the entry gate which serves delicious food. Children can enjoy in the adjoining park and there are cottages available to enjoy your meal.

“The One-Horned Rhino”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

This is a reserve for the one-horned rhinoceros so it is a given that you'll see many of them. It is managed by the Forest Dept. (govt. of India) so be prepared for a not-so-smooth experience. We got off to an unpleasant start but the 2-hour long safari more than made up for the lack of professionalism at the outset.
We saw rhinos up close and it was such a widespread smattering of them that you could be forgiven if you forget that it's a reserve and not a farm!
There are two elephant safaris, at 6:30 A.M. and 8:30 A.M. and jeep safaris on request. I remember seeing at least 10 jeeps stationed when we reached at 8:30 A.M. on a Friday morning. It is roughly 1500 INR for an hour-long safari. There is a small hut that sells water, biscuits and small eats like bread and omelettes, should you want those. There is a smallish resort cum restaurant on the way out of Pobitora before you hit the highway... it serves as a decent breakfast stop.
Pobitora is a 60-90 minute drive from Guwahati.

“dont miss the mysterical evenings of pobitara...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

being near to guwahati ... pobitara is like a heaven for naturalists..... what is most awesome about pobitara is not the wild life sactuary from inside but the way to pobitara and the evenings there...

if u really wanna enjoy the wild life... take a elephant safari which is there only in the morning.... so get ready by 6 and reach by 7 .... do ring the authority befrehead... u will be clicking lots of rhinos, wild and semi wild bisons and wild boars.... no deer ... no elephant and very occasional leopard if u are god's child....
tracking in the safari is another good experience but animals will be quite far from the track ... but be guaranteed to visualise minimum of 15 -20 rhinos on ur way .... ha ha
Now that is not mesmerizing at all .... what is mesmerizing is that u are in the place which is capital of black magic and tantra... and u will defintely feel it if u spent a evening in the pobitara under a star studded sky.... we usually ride on bikes... start around 3 30 from guwahati and just dont have to enter the sactuary ... u will be witnessing lots of wild life from a distance though... feel the mystery of the place....

overall u will remeber my words...

“Glad we chose to visit Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

We went to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary as a family day outing. All in all, a fantastic experience. The density of Rhinos are higher in Pobitora than in Kaziranga - similar population of Rhinos, but Pobitora is much smaller than Kaziranga, making the probability of spotting Rhinos higher. We saw 6 Rhinos during our jeep safari - 5 was in one area and the other one was all by itself.

The jeep safari operates between 7 AM to 3 PM, and a safari trip is for an hour. Each jeep can take upto 6 persons and costed us Rs 1450 per jeep. Every jeep is accompanied by one armed guard.

While going from Guwahati, take the route via Chandrapur as the road is much better than the other route that maps might show you based on your location in Guwahati. The last stretch of the road (few hundred meters) leading to the entrance of the sanctuary is not very prominent, and you may miss it if not careful - remember to take the next left after the Zizinia resort.

The only 2 places to stay were Prashanti of Assam Tourism, and Zizinia resort. We did not stay there, but if you want to, then look for details of these. From outside, Prashanti looked to be the bigger and more complete of the two. We didn't feel very confident of either of the places for lunch, and had our meal on coming back to Guwahati city. We were happy that we had carried sufficient short-eats with us. We had tea only at Pobitora.
