I went to South River Winery with a group of friends last weekend. We have a group of women (age ranges from late 20's through 60's) of 24. We called prior to our weekend visit to let them know that we would be coming. We had been going as a group for the past 4 years and had always had a good experience. This year it was more than disturbing. One of our passengers who has bad arthritis in her ankles twisted her ankle and almost feel on the gravel in the driveway. The owner flew at her demanding we all leave immediately. He was irate, verbally attacked us, was extremely unprofessional never even asking if she was okay or if he could offer help especially seeing that she "fell" on his property and could potentially sue him for having hurt herself. Instead he was scary, making verbal threats. When we were in our van attempting to leave he kept yelling at us to leave, but then tried to keep our van door open so he could continue to yell at us and then put his hand on our driver. I actually talked to him and when he found out we were not drunk at all, there was 24 of us total and that the woman who fell was fine with not going into his establishment and that the rest of us should still be "allowed" to go, spend out money and act appropriately. He started to change his tune then, but then immediately became irate yet again. I believe he was intoxicated as I smelled alcohol on his breath when I was talking to him. I can't believe he was actually the owner as he claimed he was because he WAS intoxicated and came out of beat up, rusty old truck! How could he own this beautiful winery, yet drive such a vehicle and act the way his was acting. Anyway, don't go there until this man is removed or he sells the winery. It truly was a frightening experience for me and many in our group. Whether or not one person seems to be intoxicated, the rest of them should not be treated the way we were. Beware.
