“Very nice, but could use some changes.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

The cabins are clean and very modern and nice. The pools are very nice as well. The lodge is beautiful, and there are many things to do. One issue I had was that the lifeguards at the pool kept circulating around the pool throughout the day asking patrons to prove they were guests at the hotel. After the fourth time we were bothered, I was getting annoyed. If they have a problem with freeloaders, they should put up a gate. Another minus was that check in at the cabins was 4:30 P.M. and check out was 10:00 A.M. Does not leave much time to enjoy the amenities. It is not worth the money for a one night stay.

Room Tip: The first few cabins on the right were located on a hillside; no usable yard for the kids to play...

We were a group of two couples who stayed in cabin this weekend!! We enjoyed it from beginning to end!! Perfect get away!! Check in staff were friendly and accommodating. Smiles the whole time. Really makes a difference. Even got a call in cabin making sure all was well. Cabin was clean, modern and well stocked!! We were shocked by furniture decorations ect. So pretty!! The pool was unbelievable. Tiki bar excellent. Enjoyed a cocktail by pool. Ate breakfast at lodge twice, waitress was so nice and friendly food wonderful!! Rented paddle boats and kayaks. So fun!! Husbands golfed and enjoyed course. Please support our beautiful state parks!!! You will not regret it!!! Thank you Shawnee!!!!

Over Memorial Day weekend of 2014, my group of 6, 4 adults and 2 children, stayed in a cottage at Shawnee State Park, in Southern Ohio. We had a wonderful time! The kids greatly enjoyed the swimming pools, both inside and outside. While the adults enjoyed the poolside refreshments. Every one was having so much fun, that we were sad to leave. We will definitely be back!

I would highly recommend staying in one of the cottages, though the lodge rooms are great too! If you are one who enjoys adult refreshments, you must try a Shawnee Sunset, it is delicious!

My only suggestion to the management staff....if you ever remodel the cottages again, consider a stand up shower. It would allow for roomier bathrooms; the toilet area is a little cramped.

Room Tip: If you stay in the Lodge, stay in a room that faces the woods. The view is amazing! If you stay in...

We stayed in one of the cabins at Shawnee Lodge. The cabin was modern, clean, and comfortable, with a fully equipped kitchen. The surroundings were peaceful and tranquil. Several good hiking trails begin close to your door. Also, many hiking trails nearby accessible easily by car. Great lake for fishing and boating. Beautiful indoor and outdoor pool. Archery and golf close The staff was UNBELIEVABLE - pleasant, kind, and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about this lodge and it's staff. It was a delightful experience.

Stayed in room 105 for a one night business trip. King bed with a very comfortable mattress and large balcony with a wooded view. Room was clean with free wifi. Hand soap, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were all in hand pumps on shower wall or on sink and I kind of liked it that way honestly. Room was nicely decorated in western type Indian theme. Small flat screen tv
, mini fridge, coffee maker, desk and small table and chair. Really a nice sized room. The only negative was the large roach that was crawling in the bathroom early the next morning. I did advise the front desk girl at check out, but she just said oh gross i will note it.

Lodge had plenty of free parking and definitely was away from it all deep in the woods. Nearest town is like 12 miles away and is Portsmouth. The lounge was closed the night I was there, but you could get drinks in restaurant that was only open 5-8. Luckily, Debbie that works there loves her job and likes helping people and was willing to stay open later so we could enjoy a few drinks and food. She really was great about everything. The food was pretty decent and priced fairly and they serve some local microbrews.

Because I was there for work and a limited time I did not get to see much of the state park but what I did see was very nice. Just keep in mind there is little cell phone reception in the area. My verizon phone only had service at lodge and my AT&T phone had limited service in parts of lodge. But free wifi throughout.

Room has a very "lodge" feel to it but the bed is comfortable and clean. Bathroom is spotless, hallways are a bit dated. It feels very vacant which can be good or bad depending what you are here for. Balconies are awesome and scenery is beautiful. The only dining option is the restaurant which is only open 5-8 when I was there. Don't order the pizza unless you like an over priced saltine crust tasteless mess. The French dip was good but Mac and cheese is from a box and costs a dollar extra! I stayed here on business and it was a nice change from chain hotels. Cell phone coverage is non existant until you go out on the balcony (Verizon) but Wi-Fi on the first floor is excellent.

My daughter's and I took the granddaughter's to visit one of our favorite spots from their childhood. The Lodge has been renovated and was simply wonderful! We ate at the restaurant, hiked, swam and enjoyed the beautiful Fall season.

Room Tip: Great place to connect with nature....
