We have eaten at Galini Tavern many times before and always loved it, the menu is not massive but all the right choices are there from Traditional Corfiot dishes to local fresh fish and products. He is also just a tad bit more than the other tavernas, but not more than a couple of euros per dish and many the same.
However one night last week two of us opted for the Chateaubriand for two at 36 euros (18 each!!!). What followed was truly sublime. A side of Beef Fillet of a size that you would easily have had to cough up over £30+ in the UK from a Supermarket let alone a bespoke butcher. Lord alone knows how much a restaurant would have charged.
But it was not just the size it was the cooked state of Medium rare that was so supreb, it was like tissue paper to the touch and tongue, no cutting needed, it just dragged apart. Eat your heart out Michelin star UK places because it doesn't come any better than this.
A delicious (Bearnaise) sauce to moisten the palate, a side of fresh vegetables, in the evening glow, by the water as the sun goes down, pure heaven!
So much so that we cancelled our last night dress it up meal at what is generally recognized as the best Restaurant on the Island, which we have been to before and probably could so be..so that the other two non-participants ( me and the significant other) could recapture the experience of our guests a few nights before.
Most amazingly we did!! and some!! Again the Chateaubriand was to die for, one half medium rare and very ingeniously, half was medium for my partner who does not like pink meat. Others had a Lamb Kleftico, and the Galini Fillet which looked awesome. Litres of wine flowed....a magnificent last night meal I am sure could not be bettered for even 3x the price. Whole meal including wine and beers for 4 came to a shade under £25 per head. Head gone value, nowhere could you get the setting, the food, the ambiance, and the service for such money..nowhere!
