“Loud outside”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2007

If you're staying here in the summer on a weekend, consider requesting to be put on the south side of this hotel, away from High St. and Nationwide Blvd. Was here on a Friday night. A great bar 1-1/2 blocks away (Frog, Bear and Wild Boar) cranks its music on the patio in warm months, and you could hear the beat, quite discernibly, until it closed at 2 AM. After that, was awoken thrice to loud sirens, ostensibly out to handle fights/accidents, whatever, occuring after hours in the bar district just west of this hotel.

Now, I realize there is nothing the hotel can do about this, but be forewarned that it can get pretty loud down here...and I was ten floors up!

The next night was better as it poured--just flat out poured!!!--all night long (to quote Travis Bickle from 'Taxi Driver,' "cleaning up the scum of the city..."), which made for a much quieter environment.

The hotel is okay. I'd have rather stayed across the street at the Hyatt, but it had been booked. Location is super for night life (obviously) and convenient to anywhere in Columbus.

I echo the sentiments of an earlier review about it being creepy watching your self-elimination process in the mirror on the back of the bathroom door. Disgusting...

And on a final note, it was amazing how Columbus, Ohio, had so much going on on a September weekend: at least three conventions; a kidsfest at the hockey arena; a Killers concert; and a home OSU game. I think it speaks volumes to the job Columbus' leaders have done that on an OSU weekend, you could be dropped off downtown and had a tough time even telling there was a game, due to the influx of visitors in this area.

Okay, great location and all. Walkway to the convention center. I love that.

The beds are extremely comfortable, and loaded with comfy pillows. Big room. Nice showerhead. Free WiFi. Even a sleep CD.

But, I dunno, I guess I expected something more. The little coffeepot had not been washed since it was last used; there was coffee residue on the inside. The carpet doesn't seem too clean, and the bathtub needs refinishing. The air conditioner has pneumonia; it gurgles and spits water. Maybe we just were unlucky to get this room.

They've let some idiot put a full-length mirror facing the toilet. Why would anyone do that? Of all the depressing things...

I wouldn't complain (well, maybe about that coffeepot!) if this were a cheap place, and, since I didn't pay full price, maybe I shouldn't complain now. But for the same low rate, we could have stayed elsewhere and gotten free breakfast and free parking. Parking here was $21. a night!

You gotta love the location, though.

The hotel's superb location is the first draw. Directly across the street from the convention center and a very short walk to the popular Short North neighborhood with its one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants.
If you are Priority Club Gold, you are likely to be upgraded to the Executive Floor. If not, it's worth the extra cost. The buffet breakfast and the evening snacks are delicious, nicely presented, and an enormous savings if you don't have plans or a need to dine in a restaurant.
The aerobic equipment in the exercise room is fine. The pool is, well, uh, small. It's hard to imagine the 2-second laps.
The entire staff is singularly friendly and welcoming, including the guys who staff the valet parking, who are of course the first people you encounter.
Columbus is woefully lacking in public transportation, so the parking situation at the hotel is not ideal. The lot next door charges $12, with no in/out privileges. The valet parking is $19 a day, but you can come and go as necessary at no additional cost.
I booked at the AARP rate, which was lower than the pay-in-advance rate, and was, to my mind, a real bargain.
I think this hotel is an excellent choice if you're going to be in Columbus.

Very nice room, friendly staff. Liked the Priority club lounge on 12th floor. Very unpleasing smell in the elevator however. They should check that out.

We stayed for two nights on the executive floor of the Crowne Plaza and had a wonderful time. From front desk staff to the waiter in the executive lounge, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our room was large, clean and comfortable. The $10.00 for the upgrade to the executive level (including continental breakfast) was well worth it. I would definitely stay here again.

I always read the reviews on here before i choose where to stay when travelling. On a recent trip to Columbus i almost stayed at the Hyatt Regency until I read a review on here to try the Crowne Plaza across the street instead. It was a good choice. The staff was helpful and courteous. They were having trouble with their computer system when I arrived, but they were right on top of the problem and had managers at the front desk working with the staff to see that check-in went smoothly. I was there before 3pm and was checked in right away. The front desk guy was super nice and gave me a corner room without my asking. The room was clean and comfortable. They have free wireless cable but it stopped working after one day so I used dial up which was fine with me, and I wasn't charged for it. If you desperately needed high speed access you would have had a problem because the front desk staff didn't seem to know what to do about it. I'm not an overly picky person but the sheets were a little stiff and rough which i noticed. I ordered water with breakfast room service and received a bottle of water instead of just a glass...which cost me a few extra bucks i'm sure. So you may want to clarify that when you order in room. Also I wasn't given an itemized bill when they slipped the bill under my door. Just itemize it so the guest can go over it in his room instead of dealing with questions at the front desk later. Otherwise hotel was a good experience. No serious complaints and would recommend it.

I needed to be downtown for an event. Had no ideal that the In house resevation staff would make my stay so unpleasent.
