I just love that new hotel smell.
The Holiday Inn Express Easton/Columbus had only been open two months when I arrived. Jasmyn (I hope I got her name right) greeted me with a warm and welcoming smile when I walked in the door and made me feel like a valued guest.
The hotel is easy to find and convenient to the airport. There are no walking-distance restaurants nearby, but about a half-mile away is a large shopping district with just about any genre restaurant you can ask for. I understand there is a hotel shuttle, but I didn’t use it.
I was upgraded to a very nice king suite. While called a “suite” it isn’t actually a separate sleeping area with a door type suite, it’s just a more spacious room with a sofa. Quite a few HIX properties have these larger rooms. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with a big TV. The room features amenities perfect for the business traveler – lots of electrical outlets, reading lights over the bed, and lots of desk space. The AC had a constant fan feature, which I love.
The bathroom was very spacious. I have no use for tubs in hotels so I especially liked the big walk-in shower. One thing I don’t like in most of the newer hotel properties (not just Holiday Inn Express, it seems to be a trend in most newer hotels) is the lack of a towel rack near the sink. I know the hotel is looking for an architecturally pleasing look, but I miss the towel holder near the sink. I do like the trend though, of not attaching the hair dryer to the wall. Usually I find the separate hairdryers only in upscale hotels.
Breakfast was typical HIX fare. The breakfast area for this property is huge, and had a lot of unused counter space in the serving area. The attendant was pleasant and kept the area clean and well-stocked.
This property is off to an excellent start, and I hope they keep it up. I will definitely be back to check it out!
