“Good proximity to OSU campus - average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

We stayed here for one night during the week. We had a regular room which seemed rather small, though the bathroom was good size. Pluses: close to OSU campus (but not close enough to walk for most people), property and room were clean, free breakfast was pretty good (bagels, yogurt, fruit, cereals, Bob Evans packaged items like egg and ham muffins and sausage muffins, milk-juice-coffee, make-your-own waffles, etc.) a Kroger grocery store is right next to the hotel, bed was in good shape, television was new, pool and jacuzzi looked good and there is a modest size workout facility (a couple of treadmills, an eliptical machine and barbells). This is a decent hotel for those needing to stay for a night or two when visiting the OSU campus. It's certainly not a destination, but comfortable for a place to get some rest. Its right on the edge of "University Village," which is housing for students (mostly grad students). The area is safe - which can be a question for some properties located close to large college campuses.

First, the fault perhaps of Travelocity and not Marriott got us very disappointed as the hotel did not have tennis courts as listed. We are avid tennis players and given that we would be a week long in Columbus, this feature tipped the balance towards Fairfield. Well, the facility is just an inn and I should have guessed the error, however, I did not, and the list of ammenities was deceiving. Travelocity has other errors in that list.

The place itself is very conveniently located if you need to be at OSU often as we did. The shopping center with a Krogers and an Afghan restaurant was a delight to have next door. (If you are into ethnic food, tha Afghan restaurant offers delicious and not expensive dishes. A must try.) The hotel has nice decor particularly in the lobby area, the staff was extremely friendly, and the overall service was fine. The free Internet was also very important for us to have.

The room was neat but very small for a long stay. The breakfast was bad and Marriott should know better. We recently stayed at a Holiday inn Express and their free breakfast was far above this one. We rather pay less per night than having this breakfast. Spa was broken for a few days, so not a great experience from that either.

Room Tip: Our third floor room, 321, was small but quiet for the entire week.

The hotel is close to campus, although not walking distance. The rooms are clean and modern. The continental breakfast was as expected, cereal, pastries, waffles, fruit. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We arrived around 9:15pm on a Sunday to find we were 5th in a line to check-in. To my surprise, the line moved very quickly, the front desk associate did a great job getting us all checked in as soon as possible. My son enjoyed using the computer in the business center, and there were warm chocolate chip cookies available at the front desk. The room itself was fine, a basic room that was clean. The free breakfast had a choice of microwavable sandwiches, like bacon, egg and cheese biscuits and ham and cheese hot pockets. Everything was well-stocked. The location is great for visiting OSU.

1 washer and dryer for entire hotel is not enough for a volleyball tournament host hotel. Hotel room dirty with hair stuck to complimentary shampoo bottle on sink. Staff was pleasant and large eating area. Rooms were quiet.

my wife and daughter stayed at this hotel because it was recommended by a national volleyball tournament. its the worst hotel they've stay in while traveling in four years. rooms are dirty. my wife had to have the sheets changed when she arrived because they were dirty. we had reserved a small refrigerator for the room for my wife's medicine but were informed they didn't have any more although we had one reserved. i don't know which person with the volleball tournament would recommend such a pitiful hotel and location. DO NOT RECOMMEND

I spent two nights here while traveling on business. Check-in was smooth and the staff was friendly. The lobby and breakfast areas have been updated and look nice. The room, on the other hand, hasn't been as updated. The linens on the beds and furniture are nice, but the rest of the decor is tired. Not bad, just tired. The bathroom is very basic and, I agree with the other user, the towels need to be replaced. They are paper thin and don't absorb water well at all. The high-speed internet worked well (wirelessly). The HVAC is controlled on the unit - no central thermostat, so your options are limited, but it wasn't noisy like some that I've experienced. Food from their market pantry was overpriced, but I suppose that is standard.

I like to workout, so the gym was a nice surprise. It's basically a converted hotel room; however, it has two decent treadmills and an elliptical machine. It also has an exercise ball and dumbbells up to at least 50 lbs, along with an adjustable bench. It was nice to have all of the options, frankly. B-fast provided many options and was stocked well. The area was also clean and well kept up.

They really should replace the towels in the bathrooms and consider paint/wall paper as an update in the rooms/bathrooms. Though, overall, it's a nice hotel.
