“Modern new hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Stayed here for a quick 1-night stay before an OSU football game and would definitely come back. The hotel is very new in an industrial part of town that is being modernized. There's nothing nearby in terms of a neighborhood or restaurants, but the hotel itself is beautiful.

It's a very short drive to the OSU campus or to the Short North neighborhood for restaurants. Our double queen room had a large sitting area with a desk. The sink is outside of the bathroom which is a feature I always appreciate. A very nice hot breakfast was served including breakfast "mcmuffin" sandwiches, fruit, yogurt and cereals. The hotel ran a shuttle to OSU game.

Stayed in this hotel for almost a week in July while in Columbus for business. The hotel is clean, modern, and the staff was very friendly. Also really liked the pool which, while indoors, had an outdoor feel when the sliding glass doors to the courtyard where opened. The only downside of this hotel is that it feels a bit isolated from the rest of the city and I would not reccomend staying here without a car. Otherwise, this is one of the top choices in Columbus.

Friendly & helpful staff, clean, comfortable and good amenities. The room was large and well designed with divided sleeping area (however no door to separate from living area). Has mini-kitchen and nice television. Quick access to OSU campus and major thoroughfares. First time at this chain and I will now try to use them always. Very impressive!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt Place during my son's orientation at OSU. I must say that the hotel was clean, comfortable and just what we wanted. People may say it is away from everything but I enjoy being away from the noisy roads and congestion. It was a breeze to get to OSU and the freeways are easily accessible. I definitely would consider the hotels location a plus. The hotel was great but the staff was even better. They took the extra effort to help when I needed some administrative support and made sure that they were there for any assistance I needed. Unfortunately, I needed last minute copies made and other miscellaneous items and they graciously provided everything I asked for. It was very much appreciated and I will definitely be coming back. In fact, I just reserved my room for August when I return. Thumbs up from a frequent traveler.

Jim

The Hyatt property was in a new renovated area of town. Loved the location. FREE parking. The hotel staff was very nice. Property was the BEST place to view the RED WHITE AND BOOM fireworks. We were on the 6th floor and our room faced the fireworks display. We were able to watch from the comfy bed. It was great! Breakfast is a bit "stuffy". Don't expect a waffle or pancake bar...more like egg mcmuffin..and no bacon or sausage. Those of us from the south felt a bit cheated in the breakfast area. The rooms are huge. This place was perfect for our family of 3 for a long stay during a volleyball tournament. Too bad Columbus is such a dud of a place to visit. UGHHHH! Ohio State was only OK. And the football stadium didn't produce an ahhhh's. Oh well. The mascot is a buckeye. Probably won't ever go back to Columbus but I would recommend this hotel for long stays.

Room Tip: Higher floors offer great view of downtown Columbus and fireworks displays during the 4th.

We stayed here with our two boys age 8 1/2 and 10 for 4 nights. We had a nice corner king room and our boys slept on the sofa bed. They actually did not even fold it out as a bed most nights - it was L shaped and large enough for them to each curl up with their blanket at each end of it. The style of the room was very nice and modern which we liked. Loved how the nice big TV could swivel towards the bed or towards the sofa. Our king bed was very comfortable.

The breakfast was very average, and very crowded - had to fight for a seat. There did not seem to be a person working it full time and they ran out of numerous necessary items (forks, glasses, cream for coffee, etc.) daily and you had to ask for it to be replenished. Not enough seating either. It was not a delicious breakfast we looked forward to every AM, but was nice to be able to get something in everyone's stomach each morning for free. Some guests were not cleaning up the tables when they were done, and the mess was sitting there without staff cleaning it up. Therefore, no place to sit if you were needing a table - or we had no choice but to clean the table ourselves so we could sit down.

We got stuck in a room on the 2nd floor right above the patio area next to the pool - very loud every night. We had to keep the TV on at night while trying to go to sleep to drown out the noise of the folks hanging out on the patio.

We noticed that the front desk staff seemed to keep to themselves and were not outgoing or overly friendly. They were definitely not rude in anyway. It's just unusual to stay at a hotel where the front desk staff doesn't go out of their way to make eye contact and say hello at every chance.

I don't mean to focus so much on the negative things - but they are what stuck in my mind. There wasn't much outstanding and positive about our stay that I remember. I would stay here again, Hyatt has always been a safe and reasonable choice.

Room Tip: Do not let them put you on low floor above pool patio - very loud at night due to guests talking.

The Hyatt Place idea is like the Loft and others where you get a lot for the money and in this case the quality of most things is quite good. I am tough on hotels just look at my reviews but it is hard to say bad things about this place except for the location. The hotel is fairly new in a new secrion of town with plenty of room and lots of amenitites. The rooms are quiet but that may be because you face a bunch of empty buildings and fields. The wifi is quite good - I did a webinar for 70 people from the room and it went very well. The Complimentary breakfast is better than most free ones not up to an order your own omlets but the egg Mcmuffins were hot and interesting and the fresh fruit was excellent. There is free parking across the street and that is the problem. On a map it shows the hotel 1.5 miles from down town but you are isloated and I mean do not expect to walk from here to anywhere. Even if the distance was close you need to go over or under a bunch of highways through industrial areas. The hotel has a shuttle but on a slower week I could only reserve it about half the time. The people are wonderful and go out of their way to make things work in this hotel so that is a big plus. The rooms are that minimal modern but there is a fridge if you need it. Overall a nice place quiet and out of the way but bring a car since the downtown of Columbus has a lot going on these days.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet till the construction starts again then you may want to face the fields
