The Onyx is part of the expanded Arlington Cafe. Back in the day, the Cafe was a great bar and its crowd was a fairly representative of the surrounding area. However, it expanded and added the back sports room area (which is nice) and then Onyx, which is a big dance floor in a third, separate room. Since the addition of Onyx, the crowd has changed and is now very niche. The sound system in Onyx is serious--the bass is deep and loud enough to vibrate various protuding appendages. They also skirt anti-smoking laws with a "covered patio" between the main Cafe room and Onyx, which causes both the Cafe and Onyx to have quite a bit of smoke. We tend to avoid the Arlington Cafe/Onyx as a result of all these changes.
