We took a weekend family trip with our two young daughters to Columbus, OH to visit the new American Girl Store at the Easton Center. After checking reviews of several area hotels, we decided to stay at the Cambria Suites, which turned out to be an excellent decision. The area around the hotel is very nice and seemingly safe. There is every conceivable restaurant within a couple miles of the hotel. There is also a Costco next to the hotel, which had the cheapest gas in the area (if you're a member). The hotel appeared to be pretty new, and I believe it must have been built as a 100% non-smoking facility. Our room and everywhere else we visited in the hotel had a very natural fresh smell. My wife and I are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, and we can tell those hotels that once allowed smoking, but then switched to being non-smoking. Both check-in and check-out was fast and smooth. All of the hotel’s staff we encountered during our stay were very pleasant, helpful, and greeted us with a smile. The lobby, restaurant, pool, and our room were all very bright and clean. We had a two queen bed suite, which was large and comfortable for the four of us. The room was nicely decorated and all the fixtures appeared to be new. The A/C worked well and kept the room at the temperature we set. There are two flat screen TV's in the room, one in front of the beds and one in a separate seating area (a nice touch, especially if you have kids). Adjacent to the seating area was a desk with a good lamp and plenty of outlets for charging all our portable devices. The desk also had an Ethernet cord for wired internet service, in addition to the free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel (full signal everywhere). There was also a wall mounted block of audio/visual inputs at the desk, which feeds into the wall mounted flat screen TV in the seating area. This was the first time we encountered something this and it made it very convenient for plugging in our children's portable DVD player (see attached photos). We found the beds, bedding and pillows to be extremely comfortable (and I have a bad back). There was a small microwave oven, coffee maker, and mini refrigerator in the room, which actually kept our drinks very cold. The showerhead was large, with excellent water pressure. The shower head was also mounted a little higher than average, which was a big plus for me, as I am tall and often have to bend down to get under the showerhead. My only knock is that they use a “passive ventilation” system in the bathroom, which many of the new hotels have now, instead of an actual ventilation fan. So even if you leave the bathroom door open, you’re going to have a fogged up bathroom mirror after someone takes a shower. There is a small restaurant, a bar and room service available in the hotel, but we did not use any of them. A hot breakfast is available for $9.95 and looked very nice, but we had other plans for breakfast. The indoor heated pool and hot tub were very nice, and according to our daughters, a lot nicer than other hotel pools. Compared to the rates at the other area “suite type” hotels, we felt we received excellent value for what we paid. We will definitely stay at Cambria Suites again. On a separate note completely unrelated to this hotel, the Columbus American Girl store is VERY small, crowded, with limited in-store stock.
