Having read recent comments about this waterpark/resort, I notice there is a considerable difference of opinion between those who rate the resort favorably and those who rate the resort as a place you do not want to visit. Unfortunately, my daughter and son, who visited the resort one week ago, experienced the short end of the stick. The people at the counter were rude, policy was not followed, management favored outside groups over those who paid to stay, the restaurant was not open for breakfast, the water park was under staffed, on and on. My daughter burned two vacation days to take stay at the resort and enjoy the water park. Contrary to what was posted on the Fort Rapids Website, the waterpark was not even open when they arrived. Reason given, not enough guest to justify opening it, so she was, for the lack of a better word "screwed". The next day, hotel guest being allowed to enter the waterpark early at 10:00AM per policy, were told they could not do so because of a school outing that had booked the water park. After complaining, my daughter was allowed to enter. Unfortunately, due to the congested and unsafe environment, they left early. With hundreds of kids running everywhere, the lifeguard staffing was grossly inadequate. I noticed on one website or web pages most likely old and simply left in cyber space to die, that the resort indicates they are affiliated with Holiday Inn. The page was dated 2006. As a Platinum Elite IHG (Holiday Inn) Club Member, I can tell you that this property could not possibly still be affiliated with Holiday Inn. While the numbers are impressive, 300 rooms, etc., the writing on the wall indicates that this facility is in financial difficulty. If you have a set operational schedule, you follow it regardless of how many rooms you have booked or how many bodies make use of the water park or how many meals you serve....people base their vacation or attendance plans on what is posted. Second, this place has a morale issue due to short staffing, inexperienced management, lack of a solid safety culture, and a variety of other reasons. Also keep in mind that good deals can also be a sign of desperation. Heavy discounting does not cover the bills or maintains the facility. I have traveled to and often take my grand children to Great Wolf Lodge, more costly, but extremely efficient and well run. Holiday Inn also has a water park attached to their hotel in Maumee, OH, just south of Toledo. This park requires a separate fee, is not as large as Great Wolf or Fort Rapids, but the rooms are outstanding and the park is well staffed. Bottom line, until Fort Rapids undergoes some serious changes, it is not on my list of recommended places to visit in Ohio.
