“Avoid at all cost!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Big hotel chain got out from under this HOT MESS of a property. Water park is DIRTY, under staffed, dark and very unappealing. Restaurant is always out of something and what you do finally get to order is cold or prepared incorrectly. Lobby is nice, but unfortunately you can't sleep there. Rooms are run down and at least two things are in need of repair on our last two trips there. (Our king bed on most recent stay was literally slanted to the point we slept on couch. Crooked!? Slanted!? How does that even happen, and not get fixed??) We only live 15 min away, but Cleveland or Cincy is worth the drive to overpay for another indoor waterpark!
Do you and your family a favor, drive past and try another one. This will only disappoint.

We do regret to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay with us, we always want our guests to have a wonderful time. Did you happen to speak with a manager while you were here? We encourage our guests to bring issues to our attention, that way we have a chance to address them. If a guest has any issue with a room and brings it to our attention, we do our best to accommodate, and move the room. Please feel free to contact a manager at the property at 877-33-SPLASH, we would be happy to hear from you and hopefully change your perception of us. Thanks.

“Fun Family trip, Temperature in the room was bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We met up with a second family of 4 from DC in the middle (Columbus- we are from Chicago area). so 4 children under 7, and 2 couples in their 30s. The room was spacious had a nice fire place. Kitchen was not very well appointed, small shelves, no plates, silverwear or even a sink!. The dryer that was included was awesome though.

The three room suite was nicely appointed, and the bathrroms were nice. The worst complaint is the bedrooms were FREEZING!. we tried and tried to get the thermostat to heat the place, but it seems like it kept putting out cold air.

Water park was great, only complaint is that children could not ride the tube slides unless they were 48". I think kids above 42" with a parent should easily be allowed on. Chlorine was horrible on our throats. I could barely talk after a day in the WP. We had fun in the kid area and the interactive tower. They have many slides for all ages, which is nice. Lines were always relatively short, which was great.

The Arcade is way over priced, and has very few games for kids under 7.

We did not eat in the resort, however the prices seemed reasonable.

We would go back, but need to solve the temperature issue.

Thanks for your review. We are glad to hear that you had a good time while visiting us. We do apologize for any issues you had with your heating and temperature settings in your room though. If ever an issue like that arises, we do encourage guests to contact our Front Desk, so we can have Maintenance address the issue. Hopefully next time you visit, this won't be an issue. Thanks again for staying with us.

“Seems to be in "shut down" mode”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

First I have never made any reviews anywhere before but some stuff needs to be brought to your attention before making a reservation here. We have visited Fort Rapids every year for the past four years around this time and we always have a good time. Last year we started noticing a few things that may seem minor to most. First about 50 percent of the lights in the water park were not working. Second everything had dull rusty paint were the water was all of the time just to name a few. But had a good time. That was last year.....

This year we invited four other families to come with us. The front desk staff was polite. The room is a little outdated, but clean. But the water park itself has really gotten worse since our last visit. The first thing we noticed that over sixty percent of the lights inside the park were not working....still. This was very noticeable when the sun went down. All of the lights by the kiddie pool on the pole by the hot tub were not working. How can the lifeguards effectively see a drowning child in the shadows of the pool? Of course they don't want to highlight all of the mold or mildew above the lights on the wall near kiddie pool. Last year two lifeguards used to be at the top of the slides. Now one lifeguard mans all seven slides which seemed to work ok. There was a severe lack of lifeguards on staff when we were there. They were not able to open the two slides on activity center, basketball/adult pool, or some of the wave pool. They were able to open the slides for short amounts of time at times and the adult pool did open around noon.

If you just take a look around at the rusty paint, mold and green algae on top of small yellow slide, old swim noodles around the basketball rims that are about to come off, missing basketball nets, damaged activity in adult pool, and corrosion on all aluminum parts. Just minor things like that make us think that Fort Rapids is in "shut down" mode.

We recommend doing a day pass still. The kids do still have fun. Spend the extra cash and take your business someplace that actually cares.

“Run Down-No UpKeep-Poor Service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

I have never posted a review but had planned a fun weekend for our children. Wishing I had read the reviews and stayed at a hotel with only a pool. Not worth the $250 for 1 night!!!!!!!!

Descriptions: Cut and Pasted from Fort Rapids website.

*The Kit Carson room features 1 King Bed with a Queen sleeper sofa. 5 person maximum occupancy.

*Water Park Package Includes:
One Night Hotel Accommodations in selected room type
Two-Day Waterpark Passes for up to the maximum occupancy of the room type.

*Become a member of our kids club and receive great deals and special incentives each month once you register (we did sign up for membership). Additionally, your registration in the Kids Club entitles your child(ren) to:

A small prize from Fort Rapids upon check in*

The above is the package and room I reserved for our stay. We were required to pay for the 5th waterpark pass, even though we questioned that the pass should be included with out extra payment on 2 occasions with staff and the issue was not resolved. The children were disappointed that none of the 3 staff working the front desk knew anything about the kid's club.
Your staff was unable to answer any questions and the upkeep of our room was poor. The heater was VERY loud and kept us up all night with the room varying from to hot/to cold. The TV remote didn't work for the volume so when the heater was on-you couldn't hear the TV unless you got out of bed to turn it up.
While the children enjoyed the waterpark, it seems that your maintenance is limited to "closing down" any area that breaks or need repair instead of repairing things.
The hotel parking lot was not very full but yet, there was not near enough inner tubes.
We will NOT be returning and will not be encouraging others to do so either.

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to stay!

Thank you for your review. We do want to apologize for the inconvenience over the misunderstanding of the amount of waterpark passes that came with your room. Those rooms sleep up to 4, and the price of the package is for up to 4, however, we did see that in one area of our online reservations page, it did in fact say 5 for the occupancy. That was a mistake on our part, and we do apologize again for the confusion, since you thought you would get 5. We would like to make this up to you, so feel free to contact one of our manager, Annette Linn, and we would be happy to discuss remedying the situation. Thanks.

“Don't waste your money on this dirty hotel.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

The lobby was nice and the indoor water park were nice but the rooms were dark, dingy and gross. I even killed a cockroach in the bathroom! No joke. It would be nice if they gave it a facelift but for the price of the room it just wasn't worth the money at all. Also you cannot bring your own into the water park area and the food inside is nasty. I couldnt wait to get up and leave in the morning and cannot wait to get home and shower,.I feel dirty.
