I booked a suite for my girlfriend and I on 10-20-12 for her birthday. It was a last minute trip because our previous plans fell through. We thought spending the day at the watermark and have a nice room to go back to would be an excellent second plan. Almost everything about the weekend was terrible.
Waterpark - This was the highlight of the trip. The park was good for being an indoor park. Sure there are limited things to enjoy in the park, but riding the slides a handful of times and floating around the lazy river was good enough for us.
The problem with the waterpark is on this particular day there was 3 different groups booked there. It was difficult to get a double tube from the kids just playing bumper tubes in the lazy river with them. When we did get a tube it would last maybe 3 times around the lazy river or a few trips down the slides then it would deflate. The amount of horse play in the waterpark was rediculous and the fact that there was little to no supervision from the groups themselves or the resort really made the day unpleasant.
Although the aboard stuff wasn't pleasant I tend to expect this from amusement parks and waterparks so it wasn't the main disappointment in the trip.
The room - the room really was a disappointment. When we first walked in the room seemed dark (there were only 3 sources of light not counting the window) and they all had low output bulbs in them. The room seemed a little musty. This wasn't a huge deal because it was a last minute trip for us so we could tolerate that. Then we noticed the other stuff such as: there was cracked dry wall in several locations, there was a stain on our in room hot tub, and the bathroom had a few hairs in the tub. The room was just dirty.
When my girlfriend took a shower she found that the tub was not draining and that there was a leak somewhere becuse the bathroom floor was flooded. We called to have the tub looked at and was greeted with a less then friendly front desk clerk. It's almost as if I was annoying her with my request for maintenance and extra towels (since I cleaned up a majority of the water on my own with the towels in the room). I never did get the extra towels. When maintenance did come they worked in our room for almost an hour and still weren't done. They said they had to finish our job in the next room over? Well we went to eat and come back to find a tub with all kinds of hair, grease, and rust left in it. There was no meassage saying that the work was not finished or if they were still working on the issue. Housekeeping was called to clean the tub, and there exact reaction to me when they saw the tube was "damn you are not taking a shower here tonight." After a half hearted cleaning job I find the tub still dirty and full of water.
I had enough at this point and went down to the front desk to domain another room. The front desk clerk, who didn't know how to handle this situation was very frustrated with me asking such a request.
Management came over and said all they could do was move us into a smaller room with no discounts except for the meal we just charged to the room. Our meal was a total of 35 bucks. I paid for a suite, with the romantic package a total of almost 300 dollars and all they wanted to comp me was 35 bucks. I'm sorry but that is not how you handle those types of issues. Needless to say I demanded a room refund (told them I wanted to pay for the waterparks passes and the dinner) and we drove the two hours home at midnight. So much for a nice overnight birthday trip. My girlfriend cried from the lobby till we were about half way home.
I have a letter sent to the Better Business Bureau. This place is really an embarrassment. Very little value here and I feel like I need to take a bath in bleach now.
SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY AND STAY SOMEWHERE ACTUALLY IN THE CITY OF COLUMBUS! This place should be shut down.
