We can't do a long family vacation this summer due to lots of schedule conflicts. We decided that we wanted to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (after all, the heart of rock and roll IS in Cleveland...right?)
I found a terrific package at the Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square, tickets to the museum, valet parking and shuttle service to the museum. i don't usually spend much on hotels. For us they are usually a place to stay on the way to somewhere, but this time, since the stay was the vacation, I decided it was worth it to stay downtown, near the museum, and revel in a little luxury. At least I was crossing my fingers and hoping for luxury.
We got it, luxury that is. At least for us. The hotel is nicely appointed. The staff is fabulous. Everyone I spoke to had a good sense of humor and appeared to enjoy interacting with the guests. We got in rather late on Friday night and immediately proceeded to have an overflowing toilet. (I felt like we were THOSE guests) We called the desk and help was there in a flash, with clean towels to replace the ones we'd used trying to mitigate the damage. The whole thing was cleaned up in a trice with apologies from the staff and wishes for a less exciting night.
The next morning I swam in the pool. The pool is long enough to be able to get in some good laps and is very clean. There is also a whirlpool and a sauna. I can see using those if I go back in the winter.
We ate breakfast in the Encore restaurant, the in-house restaurant. Among other items one can get an on-demand omelette. I didn't get the chef's name but he made the best omelettes. Great skill and good showmanship, entertainment with breakfast, watching him flip omelettes in the pan.
We spent a very long time at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (I recommend it) and got back to the hotel a little too late to get out to dinner so we decided to eat again in Encore. The food was incredible! Delicious and presented in top style. Our server was a young woman named Brianna. She will go far. She is smart and charismatic and her service made our dinner even more fun. We had a wonderful time, took our time and felt so welcome. That may sound silly, but we all have had experiences where we spend a lot of money for what should be a great dining experience then end up feeling like our presence is only tolerated. Not in this case.
Our check out experience was equally pleasant. (First, let me say that I have begun to believe that there is a direct correlation to the cost of a room and check out time. The more money you spend the later the check out. I have decided that I like being able to check out at noon.) We got down just a little too late to get breakfast and ten minutes too early for lunch. The desk clerk put our luggage in the check room, told us she'd have our car brought down and gave us directions to a really great little diner just around the back of the hotel. (Huron Square Deli) Breakfast all day and true short order cooking, well done. When we got back our car was there, our luggage retrieved and we were on our way.
The staff, all levels of staff, at the Wyndham, are great promoters of Cleveland. They told us about all sorts of activities and events we could enjoy then and in the future. They were hospitable and kind and made us feel very comfortable. This was a great experience all around.
