“Not bad, no complaints”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2007

I stayed here with some friends from out of town for some events going on downtown.

The good:
The lobby, hallways, and room were immaculately clean and well-styled. Nothing was frayed or looked worn, and the staff was extremely accommodating. Additionally, the hotel is connected to Tower City Mall and is close to many fine restaurants and night spots. We were able to walk everywhere and felt very safe in the neighborhood.

The bad:
The most difficult part of the stay was the parking, though I imagine it's a pretty similar experience for any downtown hotel. It was difficult to enter the garage and then to get our luggage down the very narrow flights of stairs and through the lower parking level to the lobby, since the elevator was not working. We arrived at 3:00pm on a Saturday and had to wait in a 15-minute line to check in. To be fair, it appeared that there was a large wedding taking place at the hotel, though this might be something to keep in mind if you plan to stay here during the summer months.

Overall:
I would recommend this hotel if you're planning to stay downtown in Cleveland. It is centrally located, well-maintained, and honors the AAA discount. There are some bad things, and they might be unalterable or expected, but perhaps I have high expectations for that kind of $$ in a hotel.

Once a fine hotel with outstanding service gives way to hosting large groups and declining customer service.

From check in to check out PROBLEMS. They don't reserve parking for hotel guests but allow it to fill up with anyone who wishes to park there. Then the parking staff are full of "attititude" when you comment on anything.

With a decline in Cleveland economy the management seeks large groups to host meaning customer services is shotty and your fellow hotel guests can be loudy roudy drunken sports convention folk, teenage groups, or anyone willing to pay to fill up rooms.

BEWARE! You have a 50% chance of having a room facing the inside pool. You can hear the screaming children from floor 6 all the way to the top floor. They open the pool at 9am so forget sleeping in.

OVERPRICED for waht you get. I can accept the smaller rooms but poor customer service - no way

Stayed one night at the Renaissance with my family and we were pleasantly surprised with the caliber of the hotel.

Location : Downtown. Direct (underground) access to subway and a shopping concourse, food court, Hard Rock Cafe and Tower City. Unbeatable.

Hotel : Older style but well appointed. Sits comfortably in 5 star category. Some area with Victorian style detailing which reminds me of hotels in England.

Staff : Friendly, professional, and helpful. I request for a King bed with couch but was provided with a King bed with no couch. The front desk was quick to admit their mistake and offered the correct room along with appolgies. Concierge was informative and helpful in providing advise on shopping and dining.

Room : We had a suite and therefore found it very spacious. The room was well appointed and clean. The furniture was well placed and the bed was very comfortable.

Facility : Outdoor (but covered by atrium) pool. Not overly impressed by the size of the pool but good enough for a few laps.
Did not try the fitness equipment.

Don't Likes : 1) Parking charge was a bit on the high side ($22/ night). I can understand if we're in NY , and

2) No free internet access ( neither in room or business center).

Other than that, a very pleasant experience and will definetly stay here again on our next visit to Cleveland.

Stayed at the Renaissance Cleveland in Public Square for one night. Getting to the hotel itself is tricky due to the current construction in and around Public Square. The hotel is connected to Tower City through an underground walkway, which is a four story shopping center. Tower City has many fast food/food court eateries, as well as upscale restaurants such as Hard Rock Cafe, Houlihans, Sans Souci, and Brasserie. There is also access to the Cleveland underground rail system which also gives you transportation to Jacobs Field, Quicken Loans Arena (formerly the Gund Arena), and I believe a train out towards the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Easy walking distance to many downtown nightlife, our favorites included House of Blues, Pickwick and Frolic comedy club and lounge, and Flannery's Pub.
The rooms were small but very comfortable. The bathroom was extremely small, but this is a historic building and judging from the doors that are painted over in the hallways, it looks like they used to be MUCH smaller! There is an indoor pool in the atrium, but it is very loud if your room in centered around it. If you are a business traveler, request a room away from the atrium center as you will not have any peace and quiet.
Would definitely recommend this hotel for minimal night stays in Cleveland, but the price is pretty high for extended stays.

I stayed at this hotel one night on my way to Chicago. I have seen the lobby on previous trips and thought it was quite nice, but had never stayed here before. I was given a room on a club level floor. The room was wonderful. Large room, very large bathroom and wonderful
king bed. Since I had a club level room (don't know how I rated that)
I had a great complimentary breakfast in the restaurant downstairs.
The hotel is adjacent to Tower City which is a very cool place. Next time I'm in Cleveland I will definitely try to stay there again.

We had heard negative comments, but found them completely unfounded. Our room was VERY comfortable and spacious.
I have never slept so well in a hotel. The staff was very concerned with our comfort and extremely helpful. There was a mess with construction in the city, however the hotel did everything within their power to compensate. We would certainly go back.

I was so pleased when I bid on priceline where I would be staying. I had lived in the area before and know Cleveland well. My husband and I stayed three nights and loved every minute of it. I got a great rate bidding on priceline, and would have never paid full price. Our room small but very beautiful, especially the marbel bathroom sink. The gym was small, but fit my needs. There is currently construction on Euclid Ave (which is a main street) but getting around was easy. There are many restaurants and bars in walking distance (my fav is Flannerys on Prospect). I also enoyed the hotel bar and suggest their raspberry martini. Overall, loved the hotel and staff was great.
