“Gay Games”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

This hotel is located in a perfect location for anything you want to do in Cleveland. The free trolley that goes all over downtown stops in front, I have just a few complaints. Because it is next to the casino, it is a high traffic area, and they need to power wash the side walks in the summer, as you get a strong garbage and urine smell walking by. We stayed on the club floor, in rooms listed as $420 a night, which has a Club Lounge. They closed the Lounge, and we asked why, "oh it has been closed for 2 years" yet the sign posting the times was still there and you could see chairs inside. Was it closed because they wanted to sell in their bar?? never got an answer. the rooms really had no temp controls, and stayed warm in the summer, no frig in a $400 a night room???.. They charge $6.00 for 15 minutes use in their business room which i find really cheap for this hotel. The beds were comfortable, but sheets did not fit tight, and the bottom came loose all night. If you are staying for a game or to go to the casino this hotel is good..

Hello and thank you so very much for taking the time to post. We are sincerely sorry for any and all disappointments while visiting. Unfortunately we cannot explain the miscommunication regarding our Club Lounge, however we have a beautiful Club Lounge on our 12th floor which is very much in use with regular hours Sunday - Friday. Again, we don't know what type of misunderstanding existed, however we do apologize. Should you wish to speak with our general manager regarding your visit and provide some additional information so that she can assist, we encourage you to please email rencleveland@renaissancehotels.com. On behalf of our entire team, we thank you and hope to see you again on your next visit. Thank you also for attending the 2014 GG9!!

The hotel is old luxury. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are very nice. There is not much temperature control in each room, just a dial on the unit under each window. But I have never been uncomfortable in the winter or summer months. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are nice size.

The concierge lounge is excellent. The employees working in the lounge are extremely nice and will engage you in conversation.

The parking is expensive at $27 a day, but you probably won't find it much cheaper elsewhere. The hotel is located close enough to nightlife, but not too close. Plenty of activities to do in Cleveland within walking distance of the hotel.

Stayed here for a weekend with friends and an Indians game. Conveniently located in easy walking distance to the stadium and several surrounding restaraunts (try E. 4th St.). Area around stadium was awesome with great pregame specials ($2 beers!!!!). Hotel is old but beautifully kept. Lobby is gorgeous. My room was very spacious with a nice view of downtown. (Note, my friends' room was very small for 4 people. So room size evidently varies.) Connected to Tower City and Horseshoe Casino. Had a great time there as well. Parking is pretty steep at $27 a night and very, very crowded. Some surface lots nearby but not under cover. A few shady characters in area surrounding hotel but nice security presence made me always feel safe. Really enjoyed my stay at the Renaissance and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Awesome hotel!

My fiance and I went to a Yankees/Indians game in Cleveland and were looking for somewhere close to the stadium to stay for the night. The Renaissance was in the perfect location and not outrageously expensive. The walk to Progressive Field was less than a mile away. We only stayed one night, but our floor was very quiet, the most quiet floor that I have ever stayed on. The staff were very courteous, the room was clean, and we had no problems with our stay. Would definitely stay there again when we come back to Cleveland.

The Renaissance is located right on Public Square, making it ideal for travelers who want to see downtown Cleveland. Built in 1918, before the Terminal Tower next to it, it retains historic luxury, especially in the main lobby, with marble and brass and leather seating.
The room we had on the 6th floor was spacious for a hotel this old, and although we had no view to speak of, it was a complimentary room offered by the Horseshoe Casino, and so we had no reason to complain.
The bed was the highlight of the room. Soft without being squishy, and firm enough for good sleeping, with clean white high-thread-count sheets that smelled clean but not like bleach. Four pillows were supplied, 2 soft, two firmer and fuller. There was no bathrobe (as listed on the website as an amenity).
The coffee service was hard to find, being tucked in a shelf in the nightstand. The coffee was surprisingly good, not the over-burnt Starbucks-type, and they even supply little plastic containers of liquid creamer.
The pool, located in the atrium, is beautiful, but beware if you have mobility problems - there are lots of stairs to navigate to get to it. As a matter of fact, there a lots of stairs everywhere, gorgeous with shiny brass rails and decorations, making it difficult for anyone with mobility problems. TIP: If you need to get from the lower lobby to the main lobby, look for the business center on the lower lobby level- the elevator is near there. The signage to find that elevator is seriously lacking.
There is direct access from the hotel to Tower City and the Rapid Transit (light-rail system), and from Tower City you have direct access to Horseshoe Casino, and if you hate the weather or just like to walk, you can even go through either the casino or the lower level of Tower City to get all the way to the Arena & Gateway.

Stayed here on a quick weekend trip Summer 14' and it is actually a historic landmark/building so it is kind of old school. They have painted over some of the (likely) hotel room doors from when the building was made as I'm sure they have expanded and updated the rooms over the years so they become part of the walls of the room floors. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms were clean although small for a Marriott. It has everything you need though, nice pool, bar, ballrooms, etc etc.

Most importantly it is in the best location right downtown next to the Horsehoe Casino and a block from E. 4th street where the action was (bars, restaurants, comedy clubs). I'd recommend this hotel. I have nothing to compare it to down there but imagine its one of the better hotels and location is great.

The Renaissance has a wonderful pool. It is set in an atrium and looks like it is an outdoor pool but is surrounded by the hotel for about nine stories high. The water was warm, about 86 degrees. It is roughly shaped like a lightning bolt but you can do laps if the pool is empty was it was when I swam in it. Our room was lovely except that they did not have a lamp or anywhere to plug in a light fixture or a C-PAC machine on one side of the king-sized bed. I always find that frustrating as both my husband and I like to read before going to sleep at night. Fortunately only one of us needed a C-PAC. I would have given the hotel another star if it had that amenity.
