5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2011

Walking into this hotel one can easily imagine a grander era when travelling was a pleasure. The hotel has great character and is located in a vibrant and diverse area of the city near many attractions. From check in to departure all the staff exceeded our expectations and anticipated our needs. Our room was spotless and bedding extremely comfortable. We were upgraded to a suite that overlooked the front of the hotel and offered a wonderful view of the city and lake. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and looking forward to returning to this hotel and the city of Cleveland.

I prefer older, well-maintained hotels. The Renaissance anchors Cleveland's Public Square, and adjoins the Tower Center. The Renaissance is now operated by Marriott. The rooms are large, comfortable and well-appointed. One can often get a special rate by shopping the on-line services. The public rooms are large and airy. The on-site restaurant Sans Souci is OK for dinner but so-so for breakfast. The bar is a bit pricey. But within walking distance you can find any cuisine, and a range of prices. The personnel were uniformly friendly and helpful. I would choose this even over the Ritz-Carlton next door.

Room Tip: Shop around. My associates got me a stunningly good weekend rate.

I went there twice,
the staff is very helpful, location is great.
It is an old facility, but renovated.
make sure to ask for a Room with a view, otherwise they will give u an Inside View Room which is like a Hospital Or jail

Like many other reviewers, we loved the beautiful lobby of this historic hotel. Our room was very pleasant and clean, located on a higher floor with a view of Public Square. This room was on the smallish side, but the bed was very comfortable and the room had a lovely bright bathroom, large HD TV and a coffee maker with Starbucks coffee. We had a wonderful dinner in the Lobby Court restaurant. The service at both the hotel and the restaurant was very attentive and friendly. The hotel is conveniently connected to the Tower shopping complex and the walkway to the Quicken arena. It made it very easy to walk directly from the hotel to the arena where we were attending an event. As it was a cool evening, we appreciated never having to go outside to get to the event. We had a weekend package that included self parking and breakfast which was served in the hotel's restaurant, Sans Souci. The service at the breakfast couldn't have been nicer. Our server was so pleasant and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was very good with a variety of hot and cold food choices, bottomless coffee and fresh squeezed juice.

As has been mentioned in other reviews, the only problem we noted was the noise level from thin walls between rooms and hallway chatter. We stayed over a weekend and several events and weddings were going on and since we were directly across from the elevator, the noise from the late retiring guests was very evident. I'm not sure how the hotel could improve this as it seems the guests were just insensitive to how much noise they were making at 1 a.m. going from the elevator to their rooms. We have stayed here before and I hadn't noticed the noise, so it may have been the location of this room.

Room Tip: Perhaps avoid being across from the elevator.

When you walk in the lobby isvery impressive,as are the hallways. The same cannot be said for the room Ihad. There were no doors on the closet, the bed was not comfortable, and the wireless did not work. The food in the bar was good and reasonably proced. .

Great location in the heart of the city. Within blocks, great restaurants shopping and theatres. Adjacent to Rock -n Roll Hall of Fame..Walk to Cleveland Browns Stadium-approx 6 Blocks. Very easy access off I-90.
Staff friendly, very nostalgic, grand hotel. Would stay again with family, friends or a couple. Beds wonderful...shower even better!
Rooms and bathroom very spacious, had room 522 which was basic room...not suite or any upgrdaded amenities.
Loved the fact you could open windows for fresh air.

We are here for a very large conference. Valet drop off area is very small and was not equipped to handle the number of vehicles. They were lined up around the block. Self-park had a car parked crossways the entrance so I assumed it was full. City lots were nearby but I wasn't too sure about the area at night. So we waited in line (a long time) and paid the 30.00/day to park. Check-in was a breeze, a very pleasant surprise after the valet wait. Staff have been very pleasant. Kudos to the staff. Keeping in mind this is a hotel from a bygone era, the lobby is gorgeous, very art-deco. Elevators, grr.. So frustrating, small will only hold 1 bellman, luggage cart, and two people or 4 people with their own luggage. Remember the valet line, now imagine all those people trying to use 5 small elevators, waiting again. The hallways upstairs are very long and narrow. You can also hear the people in the hallway quite distinctly. Our room is SMALL, again what you would expect from that era. Except our reservations were for a queen DELUXE room. I would hate to see a non deluxe. The room is very clean but very dated. No comfy chair! The only chair is the desk chair and the cushioned seat is so old that your butt literally sinks down below your legs. Not at all usable unless you put a pillow on it. This is a huge issue for me as I was here to relax while my husband was at the conference! We can hear other people at night talking while we are laying down to sleep. You can't really hear conversations just a sort of mumbling. It felt like we were visiting our parents house! Our window overlooks a brick wall and I heard the garbage trucks in the morning. Nice and we are even on a higher floor! It is attached to a nice size shopping area a couple of stories with a few sit down restaurants (hard rock cafe, Morton's Steak house, etc), a food court, and movie theatre, all without having to go outside. The subway or bus station (not sure which) is in the lower level of the shopping area. Would I come back - probably wouldn't be my first choice.
