“Lunch, Patio, Fresh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013 via mobile

Lola's suffers from lots of publicity. However, on a sunny August afternoon, lunch was a true healthy, fresh experience.

Warm reception, courteous service and a waitress that guided choices to a light, chilled pea soup. The Lola Banh Mi sandwich was the perfect compliment to the creame fraiche infused soup. The Bib salad was fresh and the dill and feta combo made the dressing optional.

Pro tip: ask for sparkling water it is complimentary.

“Much Ado About Nothing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Perhaps it's the proprietor's presence on "The Chew" or just that fact that many people call this city "The Mistake on the Lake," but not only does Cleveland deserve better restaurants, it has them. In New York, Lola would be a parking lot within three months. There is almost nothing right about this place that, while it does serve serviceable food, does so with more annoyance than we would have thought possible. A wine list on an iPad? Puhlease! Spare us! It's awkward, slow and totally useless. We all have iPads. Grow up. It's nothing special. What is special is a ridiculous choice of cutlery, which features round, pencil-thin shafts on the knives, forks and spoons. What's the problem with that? It rotates in your hand when you eat, making the meal a carnival ride of food. The only people who can use such silverware are those who eat like chimps, with their forks and knives held not by fingers, but by fists. The service is concerned, but clueless. Dishes arrive cold, hot and everything in between. Though this is billed as a meat-friendly restaurant, it has a severe problem with the time-honored definitions, like "well," "medium-well" and medium. The theory? Bring it out rarer than ordered and if the patron has a problem, we'll just take it back and put it on the bar-b for another minute or so. Who cares that this takes time and destroys the pace of the meal as others are waiting for dessert while the offending patron is starting on the mis-done entree. In the final analysis, unless you're intent on saying you've eaten here (and spending a pretty penny to do so,) you'd be better served by a dozen Cleveland restaurants. Better still? Save your money and head for one of Cleveland's signature dishes, pierogi. By the way, the flatware they use to eat pierogi are, well, flat. Eureka!

“Disappointed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Stopped after an Indian's game to wash the bad taste of a very bad food experience out of our mouths and found that that stopped serving food at 10. The IPad menu was a fun blew feature toe look at cocktails and wine. chose a wonderful glass of Rosé. Yum! No food boo hoo. Would have enjoyed something light at Lola like a small cheese board or so e lite app. That could have been prepared prior . Maybe a thought for them.... Bartender's personality was very flat .... Like a pancake. Get someone young and fresh at that late hour of 10:00 p.m.. Overheard his comments to other customers and thought this guys in the wrong business. If you want suburbanites to come and enjoy. .. Lose the N.Y. Attitude.

“Exceeds Expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Great location on the funky Fourth Street. Sit outside or get a table by the window to checkout all of the action outside. A large and well diversified menu as well as wine and beer list. The fries were out of this world.

“Looking for Something Different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Lola's is one of Michael Simmon's downtown Cleveland Restaurants. You will find different things on the menu such as beef cheek perogies! Tasted just like beef stew! There are a limited number of entrees, appetizers, vegetables, soups and desserts. Menu selections do change seasonally and monthly so you can go back often. It is on the pricey side, but a fun experience and one to try!
