“Glad we tried it...but skip the mediocre dessert.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Two friends and I went this past weekend. It's been on our list of places to try for forever yet, we've never made it in. Dinner was great and so was our service. The dining space is a little awkward and noisy. The bacon wrapped figs were awesome as was the chicken meatballs I ordered. My one complaint would be dessert. It was served in a cheap wine glass and had all sorts of fake raspberry sauce all over it. When the menu said homemade brownie with raspberries, I thought it was going to be a brownie on a plate with some berries. It was pretty much gross and didn't match the level of dinner at all. It would lead me to believe that they don't have a pastry chef.

“Not sure what the big deal is about this place....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Bathrooms - Average on the clean scale. Stalls had graffiti etched in and the floor had trash on it.

Wait staff could care less. She delivered our meal and stopped by a few times to make sure all was okay. No suggestions and/or explanations. I asked for other diet bevrages and she suggested a tangerine drink they had in bottles. I accpeted and after drinking it realized it had NO SUGAR added but still 32grams of sugar!

We ordered 3 appetizers 4 entrees and one desert.

Beet Salad was Fantastic
Anti Pasta was Mediocre at best
Tempura beans way to greasy

Burger beef was fantastic as for all the dressings that came with it made it gross and salty. Fries were way to greasy and ketchup was gross.

Short Ribs too rich and too salty tasted very disgusting and bitter

Gnocchi was quite tasty.

Lava cake was average at best.

Bill $138 way over priced for the quality of food.

Atmosphere was nice.

I would not eat here again. Told Jenna about the Short Ribs taste was off and she did nothing to accommodate!

“New Year Eve dinner for 7 at this small eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We have been waiting to visit this restaurant with some friends for a little while now. We had heard several great reviews from around town and were anxious to give it a try. We are familiar with Karen Small and her reputation here in Cleveland. We went for New Years Eve and had a wonderful experience. We shared three appetizers: calamari, beet salad and stuffed oysters. The first two were excellent but the oysters were a little "off" and we did not finish them. As they were served raw we did not find this to be a huge fault. It is a risk with raw shellfish.
For entrees we all selected something different and shared. The three best were the pork confit with sweet potato puree, chicken meatballs and bbq spare ribs. All were interesting and delicious. We enjoyed the use of fresh herbs and vegetables from the local growers that are listed on the menu. The desserts were heaven as well. Butterscoth pudding, fudge brownies with fresh rasberry and the apple cobbler were the three best.
We will definitely visit again. We have heard that the beef burgers are excellent and we would like to sample some of the local beers that are featured from the bar.
The service was good but I felt that there is room for a little more polish in this area.

“An awesome surprise!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We wanted to eat somewhere close to the west side market. We walked out the doors of the market and straight to The Flying Fig. There was 5 of us and we ordered 5 different entrees.Unbelievable!!!EVERYTHING came out hot and delicious. The menu is limited due to it's use of seasonal local foods....but you will be happy with the fresh ingredients. Honestly, this was one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at! The service was great! We did not have reservations, but they made us feel welcomed/ The restaurant is small but the seating is spaced apart so you can have an intimate conversation without having others hear you. LOVE this place.

“Good restaurant, but some improvements needed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012 via mobile

I live in Cleveland and have been to the Flying Fig before. The service is always great and food is good. At dinner last night my husband and I experienced some issues that surprised us. 1. The olive tapenade that came with the burrata appetizer was extremely salty. 2. It took a long time for our dinners to be served after salads were cleared. 3. The gnocchi entree was just disappointing. It came out lukewarm and was not well flavored. Bland gnocchi with very salty prosciutto. Dish was also supposed to have Brussels sprouts but none were present. I know the Flying Fig can do a lot better than this!
