“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

We had 3 couples in our party and had a hard time finding a dinner reservation on Saturday night of the Pink concert. Fortunately they were able to reserve us a table at 7:15. We arrived at 6:45 with the hopes of getting seated early or atleast getting a drink at the bar and checking out the menu. When we arrived we were kindly greeted by the same woman who made the reservation for us (I can't remember her name) and she remembered that we were in a hurry to make it to the concert by 9. She said our table was finishing up and she would be able to seat us shortly. We went to the bar and ordered drinks and reviewed the menu. It's now past 7:15 and we were getting very anxious to Be seated. They only had one 6 top table and the party that had been seated there earlier had no plans of getting up anytime soon. Knowing that we were in a hurry they turned one of their 4top round tables into a 6 top which sat us very comfortably. We weren't seated more than 5 minutes and they had brought us the first round of complimentary appetizers and 2 more to come. Our food arrived quickly and everyone's meal was wonderful. No complaints. I had the baby carrot risotto which was very good. We didnt even have to ask for the bill as our waiter was right on top of it. Finally we were escorted through the building the restaurant was in (by the same woman who kindly helped seat us and made sure we were take care of the entire night) to get to the concert. I wish I remembered her name as I would love to personally thank her for a wonderful evening at Hodges!!

“Very Good Meal and Wonderfull Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

We had reservations on a busy Saturday night and our table was ready and waiting for us upon our arrival. We were seated on the second floor balcony overlooking the lower level of the restaurant.

Our waiter was pleasant, very friendly (appropriately so) and totally knowledgeable of all items in the menu. When asked he made recommendations consistent with our tastes he learned talking briefly with us.

The wife and I both opted for the Ribeye Steak. I also ordered the iceberg lettuce salad with blue cheese and sun dried tomatoes. While we were waiting we were given complimentary corn bread served in a hot cast iron skillet. Some small potato things and a sweet and savory dipping sauce soon followed.

When the entree arrived it was very well presented on the plate with fingerling potatoes, and a wild mushroom and sauce topping on the steak. Both steaks were served at the exactly as ordered. Mine was med. rare and the wife's was medium.

These steaks had to be a minimum of 14 to 16 ounces and neither of us could finish.

The waiter offered desert but I think he knew we had filled ourselves.

Overall, we wound this restaurant to be a very pleasing and complete package of service, good food and ambiance. A good prelude to a good show at the State Theater.

“Excellent Food - Simple Decor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Hodges provides excellent food at reasonable prices. Their appetizers and small bites are quite tasty and are fun to share. The menu designates which meals are gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan which can be quite helpful for persons on such diets. The crispy chicken was very tasty and perfectly prepared. The wine list is somewhat limited but contains a number of interesting choices for the more adventurous diner. There were many wines under $50 per bottle which is nice. The decor is sort of industrial/simple, but it works. The waiter was attentive and got us out in plenty of time to walk down to Playhouse Square for our theatrical engagement.

“Cutting edge independent or chain restaurant-in-drag?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Pretty creative and interesting cooking. Crostini with chorizo, mussels w/curry sauce and others were well executed. The food tends to be a bit rich, but the crowd loves it. The bar has room for improvement. Extra large ice cubes in mixed drinks, no martini glasses for martinis and a waiter without any knowledge of the beers that were on tap were all a disappointment.

Who would've thought that this place, the outgrowth of a food truck success, would transform into just another restaurant owned by the Gamekeeper's Tavern owners? I hope they let the down-to-earth folks who created this concept stay in charge !

“Great find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

Blue crab hushpuppies were amazing! As was the shrimp and grits, cornbread, tator tots (complimentary), kale salad, etc!!! If I'd have had more time I'd have gone back for another meal. I love it when I stumble upon a great restaurant and Hodge's is just that. Did I mention the service? Well, it was superb and the food arrived quickly.
