“A very different perspective of the Great Lakes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Although the Mather has been a museum for a while, this was my first opportunity to visit. Lots of interesting videos along the way, guides and a self tour. Pace yourself as you see fit, but you will be walking and climbing down steep stairs. The cabins are compact, and the other areas in the ship make this a floating community. Visit the galley, the dining areas, the Engineers' and the Captain's quarters, the decks and the engine room. This is like nothing I have ever seen. What a great Cleveland attraction.

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Go during mild weather since the ship is not air-conditioned or heated. The steamship is well-maintained, like a museum. We were very impressed with the details and learned a lot just by wandering. The kids (girls aged 10 and 11) had so much fun exploring!

“A unique ship with a thorough guide”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

We have visited many historic ships, but this one is really unique as it is not a yacht, sailing ship or warship. The guided tour takes about one hour and pretty much all the spaces of the ship are toured. You get to see pretty much everything. So bits are confusing as there are at least two eras represented in the refurbished ship, but even then you come away with a good idea of what work would have been like aboard. I do wish they would develop about a 10 minute intro film that would show examples of the various methods of loading and unloading discussed. There were small video stations in several places, but it would have been clearer to have seen them all at once before the tour. Well worth the time, especially if you have any interest in shipping on the lakes, the steel industry or ship wrecks.
