“A truely interesting learning experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I have always liked the Great Lakes ship but this was the first time I was able to get near one. A lot of ladders up and down and a pretty fair walk but nothing hard, just take your time and all is good. It was in the high 80s when I visited but the ship wasn't overly hot, just warm. Pretty pleasant. The tour was self guided so it takes as long as you desire, mine was a little over an hour. The tour includes the crew quarters, senior staterooms, VIP quarters and the mess for the officers and crew. You can peer into the engine room but can't go down into it (bummer). There is an interactive area that the kids will thoroughly enjoy at the entry and the Great Lakes Science Center is a few yards away. Parking in either in the GLSC parking deck, Browns Stadium or the Port of Cleveland. Closest spot is about 50 feet.

Definitely not for strollers, wheelchairs or the infirm though, a lot of steep stairs and ladders involved.

“Worth the effort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

Great tour of the ship, lots of stairs and tight spaces but well worth the effort. You get to see the whole thing top to bottom. Knowledgeable tour guide made it even better.

“Interesting.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Was an interesting place to visit. But it is one-time since the museum tour is fairly static.

“Great Lakes history you can climb on/in”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

This is a BIG ship that is a part of Great Lakes history - not to be missed. There are interesting exhibits in the hold on a variety of GL-related topics. They advertise a "self-guided" tour but we had excellent personal guides pretty much the whole time. You get to see almost everything on board - wheelhouse, officers quarters, passenger rooms, cooking/dining spaces, crew quarters, engineering areas, engines, etc. Something of interest for everybody! The ship is moored at a dock behind the Science Center so you can do both or either one if you wish.
