“Good location for downtown cleveland but dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

stayed here for one night on business, the location is great for downtown cleveland but the hotel is very dated. I believe from a local taxi driver that some of the hotel has been recently updated but my room was fine and clean but for the price of over $170 a night it was a very average. The breakfast was typical of a holiday inn express, limited and of a low standard. So in general average but would stop here again because of the location.

Yorkshire_Bri,

Thank you for staying at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Cleveland for your recent trip to Cleveland. I am sorry that we fell short of your expectations. Our breakfast is standard, meaning that every Holiday Inn Express is required to serve off of the same menu. We, however, do offer every single thing on that selection, not just the requirements. We pride ourselves on serving some of the warmest, gooiest, sweetest cinnamon rolls downtown, brought to you by the best Breakfast Service teams in Cleveland (if not EVER!). We are dated, as we were among one of the first skyscrapers in Cleveland, and the tallest till 1921. This past summer, we closed and renovated ever guest room and public area, except the main entry where the historical value of our property really sings.
I am happy to hear that you are planning on stopping back as I would love to hear how we can improve and to have another opportunity to impress you. Thank you for our feedback. We are really listening! I will present your review at our next managers meeting to see how we can work on our dated impression and make breakfast one you can be excited about.

I LOVED this historic building, the view was great and spacious rooms with hardwood floors we clean, and felt more like a studio apartment than a hotel room. The staff were very accommodation, and friendly. The plus side is location, view, friendly staff, clean rooms. The down side to this Hotel is the parking, and amenities. The parking is in a parking garage walking distance from the hotel, that is expensive to use (i think it 16 buck a day) no pool, just a little area neer the breakfast area with 1 pool table and a few video games.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the building that lights up at night.

This hotel is very nice with hardwood floors and high ceilings. Friendly staff and the best cinnamon rolls EVER. Very close to everything, right in the center of Cleveland. Everything was great but, if you need a refrigerator and a microwave, call in early for them. They are free but if you wait you may not get one. I was there for 2 weeks and it took me almost one week before I had them.

Room Tip: They do have smoking rooms.

Cindy W,
Thank you for staying with us for your recent trip! I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Reviews like this really keep us motivated to provide the best service at the most unique hotel downtown. I am sorry to hear it took so long for you to get a refrigerator! You will be happy to hear that we received our final shipment of mini-fridges not too long ago, so now all upgraded rooms have one in the room. We do have them available more readily now for requests in that Standard Rooms, but that is an additional charge. I would suggest the upgrade to anyone. For a little more you have the microwave, refrigerator, more space and your choice between a huge Whirlpool tub or a Sleeper Sofa. What isn’t there to love!? Thank you so much for taking the time out to review our hotel. We really appreciate your feedback! We hope to see you again soon, and in the meantime, Happy Travels!

We stayed at this place and enjoyed it very much. It use to be a bank so it was something you would not expect from a Holiday Inn Express but it was huge and just very nice, would stay here again anytime I was in Cleveland also free breakfast was great.

Room Tip: Get a high room

Enjoyed our stay at this location.Very central location to stadiums and restaurants downtown.Very spacious rooms with comfortable beds and recently remodeled.Very efficent front desk manager allowed us an early checkin.Sometimes the hallways get a little loud, since the floors are all hardwood. Will stay here on my next trip to Cleveland, and will make this my go to Hotel in town.

My wife and I booked a jacuzzi suite for the weekend here. Very nice spacious rooms with 12' ceilings and beautiful hardwood floors. Very convenient to the R&R Hall of Fame, and nearby restaurants and bars. Great service too! The checkin area is reminicient of a train station, as it is not real welcoming, but the staff more than made up for that. Your usual HIE breakfast choices which were fine.

Rooms were spacious, well-appointed, very pretty. Hardwood floors, ample room, big windows that let in tons of light, comfortable beds, clean rooms. Service was excellent, the front desk staff were attentive and friendly. This hotel is in an excellent location in downtown Cleveland. Directly across the street you have a pedestrian only zone with great bars, restaurants, and entertainment. The hotel is also a short walk to Public Square and other nearby amenities. Visiting the Rock Hall or Science Center isn't too far to walk, but some of the streets are a little hard to navigate, so you may want to consider a cab or driving for that one. Breakfast was decent with eggs, pancakes, bacon, pastries, cereals, etc. No valet parking, which was disappointing, because it forced us to self-park in a garage, which is located on E. 6th, the next street over. There is also no hotel room service. The staff informed us we could order from one of two local restaurants, but we didn't partake of this option. I was surprised to learn that they have a smoking floor where you can smoke in the rooms. Overall, a good experience.
