“Could have been better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

There were some features of this hotel that we really liked. The architecture was fabulous and the rooms were spacious and quiet. We never heard the other guests.
The staff seemed bored, and spent a lot of time either on the phone or chatting with coworkers. No one explained the parking (which was more expensive than we were told it would be), we never found the breakfast buffet, nor were there any signs or hotel maps indicating where it would be. Thank goodness for Sammy's Grill on the main level, it was really good food and inexpensive considering the location, and Sammy was a wonderful character.
There were items we found sub-par. My daughters room had a broken lock which had obviously been tampered with, and there was only only one tiny garbage pail under the coffee area, none in the bathroom! In one of our rooms the sheets were cheap and scratchy, admittedly they were replaced quickly when requested. The extra blanket didn't fit the bed, way too small, which I thought was odd. The ice machines on at least 2 floors were broken, there may have been more, but we stopped looking once we found one that worked. The most disturbing aspect was that there was NO security for the guests. Anyone could walk in off the street and used the elevators to the guest room floors. Also be aware of the tax structure, you are being taxed by 3 different entities. Expect that over $30 per night per room should be added to your room budget.
On the plus side, it was easy to get in and out of the city from this location. We were within walking distance of good restaurants, some shopping and many of the tourist attractions. Cleveland has some very interesting spots to explore. With some reservations I would recommend this hotel for it's location, quiet environment and historical nature.

Room Tip: Do a walk through when you arrive and have any problems addressed immediately.

I went to Cleveland for a quick getaway with my fiance. We booked through Hotwire and were very impressed. The hotel is in great condition even though the bulding itself is over 110 years old. The staff was personable and helpful. As you enter you can see how it was an old banking building. The lobby is nice. The architecture on the outside of the building was beautiful. The elevators are a little noisy and scary, but they are OLD! We were on the 14th floor in a corner room and the view was incredible. The snow was falling so that made it prettier, but the windows were HUGE and you could see the stadium and so many other things. The ceilings were very high and it made the already large room seem larger! I have stayed in countless hotels, and for the price, this exceeded all expectations. The room was very clean and remodeled. The hard wood floors were a nice touch. There were 2 closets, a flat screen tv, and a coffee maker in the room. The bed was extremely comfortable, and they had pillows marked with soft/firm.The bathroom was large with a nice sized shower. The location is great with several restaurants, shops, and bars in walking distance. Do not miss Zocalo a fantastic Mexican restaurant with great margaritas. We did not make it to the included breakfast. Parking was around the corner in a public garage, but they do put it on the room bill for you. A very short walk to the hotel. All in all, we had a fabulous stay at the Holiday Inn Express. We will definitely stay again!

Room Tip: 14th Floor Corner Room View Was Fantastic!

Probably the most wonderful stay in Cleveland!!! This is a hotel in a 100 yr old bank building that has exquisite views of the city!!! Request room 1503. There you will have a view of downtown looking over the city from 3 LARGE windows & views down Euclid from 3 MORE large windows!!! The soaring ceilings & windows are fantastic. The room is HUGE & has gorgeous hardwood floors!!! In fact, there could be more furnishings in there - I would recommend to them 2 large wingback chairs & a bench at the end of the bed to take up some volume & cozy it up a bit. I must say, the bathroom is cheaply done for such an elegant room & would highly recommend that HI upgrade. I would gladly pay a little more for a better bathroom, cause it's already a great value. And a better bed. But anyone who appreciates architecture should stay here.

Room Tip: Room 1503 is spectacular

This is a very interesting hotel seeing as it is an old bank.
The lobby is very grand, and the rooms? Well, they are HUGE!

I was impressed with this hotel. It is right in the heart of downtown Cleveland with shops & restaurants within walking distance.

I also found the hot breakfast buffet to be very nice indeed. I was not even aware that a breakfast was complimentary at an express hotel.

Car parking was $14 at a garage just around the corner. I had to get the ticket validated at reception.
If staying in Cleveland again I would most likely stay here again.

I visited for a quick business trip and was totally surprised by the hotel..it was amazing! The rooms are huge and clean. The location to restaraunts and local attractions is perfect for walking though I had no snow on this visit. I will stay here again! I needed extra blankets and they brought them right up.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators, the are old and pretty noisy.

The hotel is nice, we have stayed at much nicer Holiday Inn Express' in the past, this was acceptable, but nothing special. The wait to check in was long and our room wasn't ready. But by the time we parked and came back, it was ready.

This hotel is in a refurbished bank. We stayed on the 9th floor in an extremely large room with very tall ceilings. Our friends stayed in an adjoining room which was even bigger. We were a little disappointed because our rooms did not have a small refrigerator, but the size of the room and the original hardwood floor made up for what the room lacked. Unfortunately our rooms were near the elevator, so we heard the "bing" of the elevator from time to time during the night. Restaurants and nightclubs were a very short walk away. Parking fee was $14.00 a night. The garage was around the corner from the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have less street noise. Do not expect a great view of the city.
