“Wonderful, Interesting Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

We had a lovely trip to the Guesthouse. Mr. Parker is a treasure, full of great stories of the art and African-american communities in Cleveland, but ready to step back if he senses you want more privacy. The rooms were comfortable and immaculately clean. Bedding was good and the room was quiet. He let my daughter join us for breakfast for no additional charge. The decor is interesting, and the en-suite bathrooms are nice.

I do not understand the negative review from catherineb67 at all. It is not a "doily on the nightstand-chocolate on the pillow" type of place, but is all the more interesting for it. There was no musty smell, the furniture is not antique but was in good repair and presentable. The review makes me wonder if there was another reason for the adverse reaction to Mr. Parker and his lovely place. . .

If you want a fancy B&B with antiques and quaintness galore, then this is not the place for you. If, however, you are a traveler that values experiences and interesting people, then this is a fine choice.

The rooms are perfectly clean (we looked at all 3). The owner is very friendly but not fawning and obsequious. He cares about his guests in a kind of grandfatherly way. The breakfast that Mr Parker provided was large and hearty and very tasty. And it was quite nice that he joined us so that we could learn about him and his neighborhood and his city.

Mr Parker is an artist and he even volunteered a tour of his adjacent and fascinating studio.

Mr Parker's home is a grand 100-year old pile. He has done the renovation himself. Everything has a kind of homemade and make-do way about it and all is done with the style of a creative artist.

The doors have locks that can be switched on from the inside but no key from the outside. It would be absurd to feel unsafe under Mr Parker's care as was mentioned in a previous review.

My 3-star rating is only an average. An adventurous traveler looking for unique experiences would give it 4-5 stars. A person who wants a pristine Victorian museum would probably give it 2.

The room was disgustingly filthy. It had a make shift en'suite which was well below parr.
From the reviews and pictures we saw on-line we were expecting something really nice but we were in for one hell of a shock. We paid for the week but left after the 1st night - refund was refused.
We were not even given a key for our bedroom door and spent the only hour we slept with the light on and the case pushed up to the door. We were both quite frightened.
The room smelled musty, the decor and furniture was exceptionally shabby, the area was particulary down and out however, the proprietor was friendly.
