My wife and I stayed at the Brownstone Inn Downtown this summer and were very disappointed. While the owner was nice and very knowledgeable about Cleveland activities, he clearly did not understand how to run a bed & breakfast, or he chose it so he could justify owning a fancy house with lots of antiques, ignoring the part about serving guests. As the sole proprietor, he seemed in a little over his head. The brownstone is a nice facility with five rooms, two of which have private baths. Note that he claimed each room had a private bath, which was untrue. If you have to walk through a house, it is not a private bath. Moreover, a fan broke in a bedroom during the July heat so that it made noise when used, which was required because the air conditioning was very weak. Rather than fix the fan, as he promised, he spent time adding new decorative furniture to a bathroom. That was pretty fustrating, but not nearly as bad as breakfast. One day breakfast was two Eggo waffles with one slice of bacon. The breakfast at the Holiday Inn would have been better, because at least we could have eaten more than two frozen waffles. The other morning breakfast was scrambled eggs and one slice of bacon with toast. This is not up to the standards of a breakfast that is expected of a B&B. Instead, this place is just a bed, with a caretaker who has misguided priorities.
