“A little too ordinary for its own good”

Stayed here one night on business, and was a tad underwhelmed.
I've stayed in about 25 Hampton Inns nationwide, but basically know what to expect.
The room was a bit dark and dated, though otherwise clean. The amenities in the bathroom were on the skimpy side, no lotion or mouthwash, e.g.
Check-in was fast and friendly. However, I was not recognized as a Hilton Diamond member. Ordinarily, that would have meant a couple of bottles of water and cookies in the room. Didn't happen. For $132 a night, it should have.
The hotel is well-located if you have meetings or a company office downtown. Bear in mind, though, that Cleveland is not a walking city, and the streets near the hotel will be deserted by 5:30, which was quite a jolt for someone like me coming from New York.
The only nearby choice for a dinner is a Subway across the street. On East 9th in the rather-empty Galleria about a block away is a decent restaurant called Key West, though check if it's open for dinner before you go.
Otherwise, you need to get into a car or cab. You DO NOT want to walk around this neighborhood at night if you don't know where you're going. And never go it alone under any circumstances. Sounds ominous? If you go, you'll see what I mean.

We have been staying at the Hampton for several years and always found it to be convenient, clean, and reasonably priced. The last time we stayed, in December, we found they had installed new pillowtop beds and upgraded the linens - they were really nice and something I didn't expect to see at this price level. The continental breakfast is also a step up from the ordinary.
Like other commenters have said, there's not a lot dining-wise in the area, but a less than $10 cab ride away there are many choices.

“Excellent Hotel!!!”

We had an excellent room. Clean, big, and the bed was wonderful. The hotel was well lit and was secure. It was my husband's 50th birthday, so I called and Jeff the manager arranged for a gift basket at the last minute to be placed in his room..and he went above and beyond doing so. From the front desk staff to the valets, to the morning breakfast staff, everyone was kind, warm, and helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Ask for the best places to eat and they will give you the best tips!!!

Just a warning....Cleveland kind of rolls up the sidewalks around 6:00....we came in during a playoff game and a concert night, and it was still empty. It was only busy before and after the events. Make sure you make plans on what you want to do BEFORE you visit. Cleveland is a very clean and beautiful city though....I will go back to see the sights again.

“Fair Deal; Great Location”

Hampton Inn Cleveland Downtown

We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn in downtown Cleveland. The hotel is easy to find. It is on the left side of the street. If you arrive on the right, just keep going down straight for 5 or so blocks, and you will come to a cul-de-sac (on the waterfront - by the Brown's stadium & the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame) where you can go back up. I used the valet parking, which was fantastic. I don't live in a big city, so was glad to just let someone else take care of the parking. Check in was speedy, the staff very friendly and helpful. We were provided a map of the downtown area. Our room was a bit warm, it had 2 doubles and a sitting area with a fold-out sofa bed. The sitting area had a ceiling fan, but no A/C in it. We were within walking distance to Jacob's field. At bedtime, we went to fold out the couch, and the frame was bent, so when you tried to open it the whole way, the couch part came off the ground. It was also dirty on the carpet under the couch (2 bandaids & crumbs). I called the front desk, was told the hotel was sold out (the Yankees were in town), and they had no more roll-aways. They would bring up blankets and sheets and we could make a "nest" on the floor. I did tell the gentleman that I did expect my bill to be adjusted. It was not his fault, and he was very nice and professional. The breakfast was great. Since the hotel was sold out, it was very busy and only had 1 woman working trying to keep up and keep things stocked. Upon checkout, I did reiterate the problem with the sofa bed and how our party had to sleep on the floor. I did request my bill be adjusted to pay for a double bed room versus the suite, and to my suprise, they credited the whole bill. That was classy and very unexpected.

I would not hesitate to stay here again. Great location, close to all the sporting arenas, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the Science Center. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and helpful.

Hit Cleveland for a weekend Yankees/Indians series- Read earlier reviews and decided to try the Hampton Inn on E 9th St.- It was a good choice- While they did raise the rates because of the weekend in question, the room was very clean and comfortable, the front desk staff was very courteous and helpful, and the location (easy walking distance to the Jake, Browns Stadium, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) was excellent- I would definitely stay there again although, sadly, except for the previously mentioned attractions, Cleveland has pretty much become a ghost town (all the buildings downtown are empty and The Flats is dead)
