“A home away from home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

My wife and I, including our youngest daughter and her husband and their two children needed a comfortable place to stay that had good and safe surroundings, and gave us a feeling of "home". We chose the Glidden House and have not regretted it. The boutique hotel was steep in history (circa 1910) and yet had a new look feel to it, and the rooms were quite comfortable. There were only 60 rooms (52 regular rooms and 8 suites) and so you never really had that high density feeling compared to the big hotels.

Our grandchildren loved the surroundings, taking daily walks to the pond across the Museum of Art. Public art, museums, and a lovely university community surrounded the hotel. Even without a car, everything was a good leisurely walk --- museums, restaurants, bars .... What a beautiful place to spend more than 2 whole weeks in Cleveland!

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the hotel grounds.

I went to school right by this hotel and only just now stayed in it for the first time. It was lovely. The rooms and beds are slightly small for American standards, but very lovely and clean. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. Service was excellent as well. It was so nice to be able to park there and then walk to everything in University Circle.

I won't repeat the previous accolades. This is a charming Inn. The location was great for us. Parking is complimentary making it ideal for us since we like to remain parked and walk.

Lakeview Cemetery is a 15 minute walk. The Botanical Garden is across the street. The Museum is a 5-7 minute walk. Restaurants are also within an easy walk.

After check out you can leave your car and extend your stay.

GH is a great find.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel on our way thru Ohio. The hotel is lovely and is in a prime location. The staff is pleasant. The only real problem with this hotel is the lack of insulation in the walls. We could literally hear everything the man in the next room was saying. He had a lovely conversation with his wife over the telephone(which we could even hear what she was saying on the phone). When he hung up I wanted to wish her a goodnight as well. I'm really saddened to write this because overall the hotel was really nice but they have to fix this problem. I can't imagine if we had a neighbor that was a "night owl" we wouldn't have
slept a wink.

As others have said, this property is well situated for visiting Case Western, Cleveland's museums. botanical gardens, and performance hall, and little Italy, all of which are within an easy 5-7 minute walk. The property is an elegant old building, lots of dark wood and detailing. Rooms conservatively decorated; fairly standard but nicely appointed and well maintained. A sign indicated that windows were not to be opened, which was unfortunate, because the room smelled musty, especially after our showers (no bathroom fan). That and the very slow drain were my only complaints. Breakfast was decent ( bread and toasters added for previous reviewers), and pastries were quite good. Together with free on-site parking, all this made for a reasonable value for the area.

Stayed at the Glidden House while on business in Cleveland. The room was clean and neat with all the necessary amenities. The front desk welcome was warm and friendly. The y were also very helpful in directing us to a nearby excellent restaurant. The complimentary breakfast served was far superior to those in chain hotels. The ambience was in the eating area was very comfortable. I definitely would return here again.

We were in Cleveland because of testing at the Cleveland Clinic, so we needed to stay for 3 days and wanted a place that was convenient to the Clinic and priced affordable.

We found all that and more at the Glidden House Inn! Our room was spotless and I am not easy to please when it comes to my home away from home.
We were greeted by James at the door and made to feel very welcome from the first moment. We enjoyed the ambiance of this historic setting and yet it has all the comforts of the present day.
Our bed was comfortable and noise was minimal. Windows were large and pleasant view on the north side of the building.
It is on the Case Western Reserve Campus with many tourist sites within walking distance. Our schedule and the weather did not allow for us to take them in but we may return in spring or summer and enjoy them as well as the outdoor eating area that was being completed while we were there.

The breakfast was ready at 6:30 which was important to our needs, and it was fabulous. We would have like to linger before the fire and have that second cup of coffee but we had to be going to the clinic.

We enjoyed a meal in Little Italy, just blocks from the Inn and ate at La'Albatrose a short walk from our room. Enjoyed both though the french restaurant was a bit pricey.
Would recommend The Glidden House for any of our friends.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor and that made it very convenient to get in and out quickly. We did view...
