“The absolute worst place we have ever stayed.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Our daughter, who lives in California, found this place on the internet. Knowing we have visited Holmes County for 30+ years she bought 2 nights in the form of a gift certificate for us. We booked it 2 nights. That's when the problems began. On the surface, it looks quaint and inviting. It isn't! When we arrived, there is no place to conveniently park. Either across the street at the restaurant or behind the cottage where there is no direct access to the cottage. We managed to get our luggage and things inside only to find there are no tables upon which to put anything. They didn't even supply soap for a shower which by-the-way isn't hardly big enough to turn around in. There were three throw rugs on the bathroom floor that were nasty. I felt dirtier after my shower than I did before! The place hadn't been dusted for some time. The controls on the jacuzzi were broken with instructions on how to use the broken controls taped to it. That being said, there is no way we would have ever used that thing anyway because of the way the rest of the place had been taken care of.
We retired at about 9:00 pm, just about the same time the local teenagers decided to gather at the storefront just across the street. Way up into the night they were loud and disrespectful. When they finally left, we got about three hours of sleep when at around 5:00 am the semi-trucks and lift trucks started into and out of Keim Lumber. The entrance way for the lumber store is right next to the cottage and is a steep hill. There is no way we could sleep through all that noise.
We contacted the manager on duty at the time and told him we had such a terrible night that we were just going to forfeit the second night and find another place to stay. He admitted having trouble with the teenagers for a long time. He also told us they had no staff on duty to clean that day. He told us we would be receiving a check in the mail for the refund of the second night. It didn't happen. This was a TOTAL disaster!
The only thing that was fairly good was the food that was included in the stay but due to the fact they didn't live up to their voluntary promise on the refund, we will have nothing to do with either the restaurant or the cottage in the future.
Beware and look before you book!

I found this cottage on a girls trip in May and couldn't wait to stay here with my husband! We spent two nights at the cottage and we loved it. Everyone at the restaurant treated us so good and fed us well! You have dinner there and before you leave you get a breakfast basket with muffins and fresh fruit.

It did smell a little musty but it wasn't anything too bothersome, it's an old house so it's understandable. Everything worked fine, including the A/C and hot tub. The kids did hang out across the street but they weren't loud or disruptive at all. I had read one review that someone was annoyed with the number of horse and buggies that went by but honestly, I didn't hear it enough.

Grandma's Cottage is a wonderful place to spend the night. The cottage was available only one night and booked the rest of the week. My wife and I only wish it would have been available for a whole week. The service was great. The food (dinner and breakfast) wonderful. The cottage is expertly decorated in a victorian theme. It even has a fire place (gas logs). The location is perfect. Amish buggies passing by while your setting on your very own private front porch.

Grandmas Homestead Cottage
My wife and I spent a wonderful weekend in the cottage. The cottage was clean neat and everything worked. Sitting on the front porch having a cup of coffee and watching the Amish people passing was nice and a good photo op. The meals included in the packager were great at resteraunt across the street. All in a great and relaxing getaway. looking forward to another visit. We plan to give a weekend getaway at an upcoming event as a door-prize.

In Charm Ohio we stayed at Grandma's Homestead cottage across the street from Grandma's Homestead Restaurant. The air conditioner did not work during our stay and it was warm outside. We could not get the windows open to have a breeze. Housekeeping did not clean the cottage during our several days stay. We had to go across the street to ask for clean towels, linens and toilet paper and do our own housekeeping. From 6pm to 2:30 am local teenagers would crowd into the parking lot of the general store next door to Grandma's Homestead restaurant . They would yell, throwing cans, loud music ( from their cars ), loud engine noise, peeling tires, noise nonstop. The lodging price includes breakfast and dinner and we discoverd why two full meals were included in the price. The meals were fantastic but the cottage was awful. Find better lodging somewhere else . Just eat at Grandma's Homestead restaurant ( the meals are great ) but do NOT stay at the cottage.
