“Fabulous food, service and views even though they were nearly full”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

4 of us came for a Friday lunch. Whalers has had it's ups and downs so we were really hoping for an up time!! Well we were very happy with the service, from our greeting and seating to great service from a variety of wait staff, and a delicious lunch. We just had mains and desserts, but entrees consisted of share platters or individual plates all of reasonable price. For mains we chose the steaks $34 and King George Whiting $30 both served with either potato or chips and salad. The fish, grilled, was super fresh and tasted of the sea and the salad and dressing were up a notch from any we have had elsewhere, as were the chips. Steaks melted in the mouth and were a good thickness and served as ordered, rare and medium. Served with a crisp Jim Barry Reisling ~$30 and a side of crisp steamed veggies (beans, broccolini and asparagus) $10, we thought we had good value for money.
Desserts were a delicious creme brûlée with home made macaroon, a chocolate nemesis (Italian chocolate mousse cake) Knickerbocker Glory, a trio of chocolate vanilla and toffee ice cream with berry coulis, all delicious and all $10.
We can thoroughly recommend this restaurant for value for money, delicious food and great service

“Eat your heart out, Greek Islands”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

This is one of the great locations - a sweep of bay, rocky islands, ancient rounded hills.
The new management, ex Blues Cafe, has returned Whaler's to some of its old high standards recovering its image after several years of ups and downs.

The menu is smallish but the dishes are light, elegant, imaginative and interesting - changing according to season. The fried oysters are sensational, the mussels are wonderful, scallops delicately seated and moreish, the larb salad has become a serious favourite with many and locals praise the steak...

The bar remains popular with regular happy hours and holiday walkers relish afternoon teas on the deck.

They do a good martini.

“Great to be back at Whalers, EAT Restaurant.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

I hadn't eaten at Whalers restaurant for a number of years despite being a regular visitor to Victor Harbor. The food was excellent and exceeded our expectations. The service was prompt and the views remain spectacular. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting again.

“Great View,Food and Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Sunday afternoon lunch is a casual experience. Friendly staff with a can do attitude offered changes to the menu to suit individual tastes and drinks perfectly served in fine glassware.Decor is minimalist -red and white mainly with huge windows to look out on the bay. Everything was very relaxed and enjoyable

“View only thing going for it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Been there a number of times now.Must say that who ever is in charge, should really train staff a bit better.Same as last time I was there, apart from waiting for some one to come serve us,and yet place was empty.Others came after we did and had to go looking for staff also to serve them.I think they forgot we were there when we sat there waiting for our food to come.Like I said the views are only thing going for it now, unless they improve service/staff.
