“Awesome drinks, would love to try their meals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013 via mobile

Quaint location with immensely friendly staff, Matt the head beer maker/owner was happy to share a laugh and some knowledge with my group of friends when we visited, I love the ginger beer and have had to return on several occasions (including today) for more bottles as its so delicious and great value for money :)

“Amazing food complimented by the equally amazing staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

What a fantastic lunchtime experience!
We chose Ekhidna based on trip adviser reviews and reading the menu (which looked great with great variety)
So we arrived for lunch with some fairly high expectations.... and all of them were exceeded!

From the initial wine tasting at the bar to choose a bottle of wine to have with our lunch, to then beer tasting at our table with our entree of antipasto (loved the mushrooms and the chorizo) - it set the scene for a a great afternoon.
(As an aside both the wines (sav blanc was great) and beers were fantastic - and this encouraged us to spend a small fortune after our lunch!)
The mains were of the highest quality - we had the pork belly (to die for!) and the gnocchi ( very different and very tasty!)

There are plenty of lunchtime choices across mclaren vale, if you want a relaxed setting, reasonable prices, friendly and attentive service and above all fantastic food - then do not miss Ekhidna!

“Consistently excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

Each and every time I go there (kitchen) I like it a little more. The beer is quite special and the food is fantastic. The staff are efficient and you can order from the table... you know like a real restaurant.
In comparison, the Vale Inn is chaotic, loud and busy, with an 'order at the bar' system that is annoying when you want a top up of the very good beer.

“Enjoyable tasting & dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

After a pleasant scenic drive from Adelaide to McLaren Vale via Clarendon and tasting at another winery, we stopped in to check out the restaurant scene at Ekhidna and it looked inviting. We were quickly drawn into tasting the Ekhidna wines and beers and ales by the very friendly bar staff. As the restaurant was fairly busy, we reserved a table and returned for lunch in 2 hours time after tasting at another 2 wineries.

We shared an antipasto platter which was well balanced and made for a perfect appetiser. After a reasonably long wait, our mains arrived and each of us were slightly disappointed given our high expectations. My seared yellowfin tuna lacked seasoning which improved with some ground pepper. However, the accompanying pineapple salsa lacked punch and was a bit dry, and could have been enhanced with a bit more spice and some lime juice.

Overall, a very pleasant tasting and dining experience.

“Lovely & welcoming!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We had a lovely shared lunch of different platters/dips at Ekhidna kitchen! They seemed busy shortly after we arrived at noon on a saturday but weren't kept waiting & things were very efficient! Nothing worse than being forgotten about which I've experienced eating out a couple of times at other restaurants in my area lately?! The staff were great and the food was delicious, I would love to be back soon to try more than just the platters...The beer tasting was a highlight for my Dad & my husband too. Keep up what you are doing & be back again soon!
