“Absolutely gorgeous setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Perched on a hill overlooking vineyards, almond groves and grazing sheep..big wrap around deck perfect for sipping the Lane champagne and nibbling olives. Good menu, service was great but the location is the true star. How can you not love having lunch in this spot!

“Promises a lot delivers little”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

We went here for a special occasion and were very disappointed. The entrees were ok, but needed seasoning. Our mains were very poor. The duck was tough and tasteless, the beef was also extremely tough. Once again the dishes needed seasoning and the sides were just average. Overall, several hundred dollars poorer, we came away very disappointed. The only positives were the location and the wine. Would not recommend it for a meal but would be ok for a glass of vino on the balcony.

We are sorry to disappoint you on your special occasion. If someone doesn't seem to be enjoying their meal or returns their food uneaten our staff are trained to seek immediate feedback. This is particularly important as we can often take action there and then to improve your experience.
I am not sure how many were in your group to spend several hundred dollars. Entrees on average are $14, the beef $39, the Duck $38 and the sides $10. Thank you for enjoying the wine and the view. I am pleased that "Beyond India" restored your faith in dining in Adelaide.

“Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

Nestled in the rolling green hills nearby mount barker , we were invited for a wine tasting and lunch at the lane restaurant which was surprisingly stunning - the setting of the restaurant, the concept, the staff and finally the food and wine had been really good. the waiter pointed out the "good wine years" and gave us wines of different years to try before even we ordered - fantastic! the wine card offered besides there own wine, some others from the area, from barossa valley and even from new zealand.
food: yes, anything, perfect steaks and a choice of australian fish and sea-food, all was tasty an the portions not too big (nor too small) - perfect for an outing or if you are driving around from one vinyard to the next, stop there for lunch!

“Lovely location for a wedding, just a few little niggles.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

I went there a few years ago for a cousins cocktail wedding. Unfortunately due to rain, they werent able to marry in the gardens as planned, but in a large tin shed adjoinging the restaurant. I think this is actually the distillery. Despite the weather being bad for days, it seemed as an after thought that they had to use this for the ceremony, as no chairs had been set out for older guests & staff were moving things around to fit us all inside.

I appreciate that its a working vineyard & rural area, but the whaft of fertiliser was sickening. The views were lovely though.

There is wooden decking at the front of the restaurant. This became very slippery in the rain & the planks have gaps that caused many of us with heels on to become stuck in them. Once inside, there wasnt enough seating for all guests. I asked the staff if they could bring out more chairs, to be told that we could use the ones on the decking. I pointed out that they were all wet due to the rain. I was given a tea towel to dry them myself! Only once the groom also asked for more seating did the staff dry some off to bring them inside. Still not enough for everyone to sit down, but at least some of the older guests & those with painful heels on could rest.

Once the food finally came out, it was delicious. Only tiny servings though. The bride said she had ordered twice the recommended amout of food so guests werent hungry. Once the dancing started, the canape plates were left on the side. Within 20mins these were taken away & not returned. Several guests were asking where they'd gone as canapes arent that filling. The bride also asked for them so they could be eaten on the journey home. The staff said these had already been thrown out!

By the time we got back to our hotel in the city, we were starving & ordered room service. The lane is set on lovely grounds & would be nice on a sunny day. What food we got was tasty, so I would return. Our experience was from a few years ago, so I'd hope that the few issues we had have been improved.

I am surprised you have posted this review of a wedding held several years ago. We have held many weddings since then and consistent positive feedback gives me hope that we have addressed all your niggles. Some guests find cocktail weddings tiring and despite our best efforts may not feel satisfied with the food. This can be to do with the appeal of cocktail food or the budget constraints of the wedding. You must have been wearing Jimmy Choo stilettos! We couldn't insert a pencil between the deck planks today. Finally John the owner is receiving counselling seeing his state of the art winery described as a "tin shed" .

“A leisurely lunch on the deck”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

Located near Hahndorf,we only found it from the recommendation of a local shopkeeper. There are winetastings and lunches.I suspect booking would be wise though we got a table with a short wait. The wines are superb with some supplied to M&S in the UK.The viognier was wonderful but at $40Au per bottle is at the higher scale of their prices.
The menu is not that large but the food was superb and sitting on a deck overlooking part of the vinyard with a glass of wine what more could you want.
If we lived locally this would be on our regular list.
