“Disgraceful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

Arrived on a forty degree day and had to bargain for the mgr to sell us a beer! Dining room not avail that evening due to a private function....no compendium provided in the room, no breakfast menu in room. No milk in the room. Air conditioner not working properly. Removed the dead earwig from the sheets prior to getting into bed. As for the TV, and the shower, what a joke. My advice, do not stay there, move on to berri or remark.

Thank you for posting your review - we appreciate feedback good or bad. You may not be aware that the Barmera Country Club has new owners and new managers. We all possess a passion to restore the country club to its "former glory". Refurbishment is due to start early next year and guests will experience a huge improvement in the standard of accommodation and facilites provided.
Please don't "write us off " just yet. We welcome your return into next year and would value your review then.

We booked the two bedroom suite with spa. It was in a great condition. The spa was able to have two people use it, without any problems. There were none of the mozzies, spiders or spiderwebs as in previous comments. The paintwork was perfect. The mattress was very comfortable. The airconditioning was perfect, as were all the amenities.
The staff there were extremely helpful and friendly. We were offered more towels and were told that if there was anything we required, we just had to ask. Both Alan and Helen are delightful people.
I've stayed in many hotels and motels (up to 5 star), and never had the feeling where I would go back. This is definitely one where we will go back. We had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. For a country motel, this is just great!

Never ever again. We had booked a 2 bedroom 'suite'. Room was full of mosquitos, spider webs and spiders. Paint work was appalling. It looked like the furniture had been given one coat of paint and that was it.

We would have asked for our money back but had booked through an inernet site that described the hotel as 3.5*. Wasn't even a 2*. The outside area had cigarette butts and cardboard lying around. Light over the bed didn't work.

Manager was very helpful and when we complained were moved to 2 single rooms. Our bed had us slipping into the middle of the mattress. Still had spiders & mosquitos in the room, but fly spray was suppied.

Didn't even bother checking out the restaurant given the state of the rooms. Did not appear to be many guests staying here. Must be better value elsewhere as we paid $182 for the initial 2 bedrooms.

Have stayed in Barmera several times but not at this establishment. Having read a recent review which rated it highly we decided to give it a try.
Check in was o.k. - then all down hill. Fridge was off, defrost tray in the bottom full with added dead flies, exhaust fan in bathroom not working, battered condition. We were transferred to another room - little better - shower filthy. Previous occupants has used adjoining entertainment/b.b.q. area and left in a mess. Proprietor said he would be back in a few minutes to clean up. 3 days later still no action. I would not cook on b.b.q. for fear of typhoid. Could add a few more but enough said.
On the positive side the setting was great.
Would not stay here again in a fit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Despite some highly overated and inflated web PR, this place is niether a Country Club or a pleasant place to stay. The plastic outdoor furniture had more cobwebs over the chairs than the Addams family home and this was matched by the walls inside. The toil, "sealed for my protection", contained a number of drowned blowflies. The woodwork seemed to have been attacked by a bikie party swinging a chain and was severely done over. The TV was almost impossible to wathc unless we wanted sport of the old movie re-runs. The motel guide was empty apart from a direction that bookings were essential for dinner, see reception for a menu; no mention that breakfast was available despite seeing guests having breakfast when I returned the key and A/C remote. There was no shower curtain and the bathroom filled with water spary if you were a little enthusiastic. This is only a 2 star at the best, way overpriced and dirty. Don't stay here.

When you think of a 'Country Club'
what comes to mind?
Bar? closed!
Restaurant? Closed!
Indoor Spa? Closed! - closed for maintenance they said - we found it and it has obviously been out of use for a very long time.

The property itself is very tired. Our upgraded 'suite' was poorly furnished and what little there was was old and scratched.

The whole place was quite depressing really. Plenty of 'no frills' motels around which are better.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2005

I came across the Barmera Country Club just by chance as I was driving from Adelaide to east central Victoria. I left the Adelaide area by early evening, and knowing there were some towns along the way, I figured I'd just stop when I saw something I liked. In a driving rain storm, I saw a sign for this comfort inn. It took me a while to find it as it was so dark and rainy, but I'm glad I did. Each room had a carport outside and the rooms were quite spacious, with just about everything you could need. From what I had seen of Barmera while finding the hotel, most everything looked shut, so I ended up in the country club restaurant and had a nice dinner at a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and I would stay here again, no question about it, especially considering I only paid $79 AUS$ for the room.
