Description: Deliciously different African, Mediterranean and Caribbean traditional family style cooking is served at the Key Restaurant Maleny, a short 20 minute drive from the Sunshine Coast. Some of the most popular dishes on the menu are Mozambique Chicken with Jollof Rice, the melt in your mouth Moroccan Lamb Tagine, the hot and spicy West Indies Goat Curry. All of the dishes are lovingly prepared by Ghanaian Chef and Owner, Simone Butler, with many involving very lengthy traditional preparation and slow cooking to perfection, often over 3 days. In addition to Simone's traditional ethnic dishes, there is also available fantastic 30 mm thick 350 gram plus grass fed, well marbelled steaks or fresh grilled barramundi. Key Restaurant Maleny is fully licensed with a cocktail bar, an interesting wine cellar with lots of variety to match the sometimes spicy and fragrant dishes. Excellent organic coffee, delicious cakes and deserts are a feature. Enjoy dining by the log fire or alfresco dining on the spacious veranda with panoramic views to the Coast, Mount Coolum, the hinterland and the Glasshouse Mountains. For mouth-watering meals, packed full of flavour and exotic spices, visit the Key Restaurant in Maleny. Open Wed – Sunday, lunch and dinner, Special Friday Night Buffet. Garden Weddings, Parties, Special Events and Receptions for up to 100 people are catered for. Check out the menus or book online.

“Fantastic service and wonderful food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

We booked a table for my husband and myself on Saturday night. We were welcomed by the most wonderful staff, and a nice warm open fireplace, which was perfect on a cold winters evening. The food was amazing and we have already picked out what we are going to try next on the menu! If you like spicy foods then you will love it. If you don't, there are still some lovely meals to choose from. We were also lucky enough to have been given a variety of samples of their drinks menu. Highly recommend trying out this restaurant for something a bit different from the ordinary.

“Impeccable service and comfort food at it's best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014 via mobile

We had dinner at The Kay last night after friends visited earlier in the week and raved over the food and service. It did not disappoint. Upon arrival we were given cocktail/mocktail samples by the very friendly husband of the head chef, Luke. We were then shown to our table near a fireplace. Although a quite night, the atmosphere was private and personal. We had the pumpkin and ricotta fritters (a special) and satay chicken sticks for entree. The flavours were delicious. For main we had the lamb tagine and sweet potato, coconut and bean casserole. The lamb was so tender and flavoursome you could have licked the plate and the casserole was comforting and complex in flavours. Although completely full we also had dessert and thank goodness we did! We had the sticky date (best caramel sauce ever) and the brownie (my chocoholic partner said it was the best dessert he's ever had). Service was impeccable, food was delectable and best of all the chef believes in natural, whole foods and using local produce. Everyone must take a visit here, it's like being welcomed into someone's home and learning about their family through every bite!

“50th birthday lunch with family and friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Great venue, staff friendly and attentive. Catered for all ages 3 to 70, also gf and vegetarian . Portions were huge and tasty. I had the lamb kebabs as entree and fish stew for main. 100% for taste and presentation. Also the goat stew was a big hit with some. Little kids enjoyed the strawberries and chocolate sauce.
Would definately recommend.

“Delightfully different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We booked in for Sunday lunch and were shown to a warm sunny table on the deck overlooking the surrounding countryside. The waitress was very knowledgeable and happily explained all menu items and specials. This was very helpful as the African cuisine would not be familiar with many people. Many of the dishes were very hot and spicy and came with appropriate warnings. We chose the Jerk Chicken and Lamb Tagine which were medium heat but still very tasty and well presented. Desserts were also very good and some unusual combinations here also. The wine list is extensive and well priced with some South African labels. A guy on an electronic keyboard provided some pleasant music throughout the lunch service. A very well run place with attractive decor and wonderful views. Would be great inside on a cold winters night.
