When we arrived at Maleny Lodge the hosts were absent and we were shown to our room by a nice young man from the office on the premises. At about 6pm Hilary and Ian arrived. They had been held up in Brisbane but we had not been informed. By this time the house was cold (though we lit the gas heater eventually), we were the only guests, we had no idea when the hosts would come and it was a bit creepy. The tray for tea and coffee was empty excepts for dried out used tea bags and we had not been made aware that there were more cups etc in the cupboard underneath. The bin beside the tray stayed full of rubbish for the two days. Not an auspicious start.
The house is shared with three large cats. We love cats but they sat wherever and the house smelled of cat, somewhat disguised by air freshener. There was also evidence of claw sharpening on the furniture so it all looked a bit tired.
The room was small but pretty with a half tester bed and an ensuite bathroom with a small shower. On the second day of our visit the bed and room were not serviced in any way, the bed not made the towels not changed. We were the only guests so it would be hard to claim they were overworked. I guess we should have said something but we didn't like to make the relationship strained.
Ian and Hilary were most helpful in getting us access to the internet on our computer when we needed to check on some personal matters and were always pleasant to us.
Breakfast on the verandah was very pleasant, with fresh fruit salad, juices, croissants, cooked eggs and other choices and coffee. Copious and delicious.
All in all, not what we expected in terms of welcome and attention to detail.
