“Beautiful Place & Amazing Hosts - Can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2010

My son (8) & I decided to travel from freezing Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast in the September school holidays. We decided to stay around the Australia Zoo region so we could enjoy a full day there and also stay on a couple of extra nights to explore the beauty of the hinterland, the rain-forests & the Glass House Mountains.

We stumbled upon this place thru Trip Advisor & lobbed up after a scenic & easy drive from Brisbane airport to the most delightful accommodation perched on a hilltop overlooking lush green hills until the view falls away into the ocean!

We were greeted by our hosts, June & Peter, and immediately put at ease by their friendly, relaxed manner. A tour of our room & the facilities followed and I was blown away by it all. Our room was so nice - spacious, clean, beautifully & tastefully decorated & with everything you could wish for! My son immediately got ABC3 on & I hopped into the fresh coffee & shortbread! Bliss!

We dined in every night, purely because it was so delicious & amazing value, and they were so accommodating of my son's fussy palette. They really won my boy over with their engaging & friendly ways an by the end of the stay we felt like we were staying with family, not strangers.

A stunning place to stay in a beautiful part of the world! We will be back!

My wife and I, like many of the other Eyrie visitors, are returned guests. We originally had part or our honeymoon in the magnificent blue room there and returned recently for a quick break from the everyday drudgery of life. It was a last minute thing and we wanted only one night. Wotif had nothing of value on offer and many boutique accommodations require two night stays on weekends. So we thought we'll try the Eyrie. " No problems, happy to see you both" was Peter's response.

Upon arrival Peter and June greeted us like close family and instantly remembered us even though it is close to five years since our last visit and they have had hundreds of guests.

We quickly settled in and headed straight for the spa with views forever. Beautiful and warm on a brisk early spring afternoon, we had already began to revived our spirits when Peter and June quietly appeared to ask if we needed anything. Like lightning without thunder they returned with chilled champagne and snacks to complete the mood and we celebrated the temporary truce with the world outside.

Around 90 minutes later, two happy prunes returned to the Green room and prepared for our dinner reservation at the Gypsy's Table restaurant in Maleny. Just a quick 15 year old scotch before we go. Several hours (and great dinner and bottle of wine) later we slipped quietly into our large, comfortable bed after thanking Peter for returning us soundly so late at night.

The sunrise and wonderful, expansive breakfast arrived and was devoured with appreciation and delight as we came to the realisation that it would soon end and the war with the world would resume. But not before saying thanks and soon again to Peter and June. They both have that so rarely seen talent to know exactly what you need before you do and suggest it at the perfect time to make it seem so effortless. An experience that must be done. Thanks Peter and June.

What was to be just another place to stay the night while we dined in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, we were pleasantly surprised by this B&B situated on the foot hills of Bald Knob. I originally chose this place due to the close proximity to the Terrace on Maleny restaurant and it was within my budget ($260 per room per night).

The drive in was through some beautiful country on a long and slightly windy road. Upon arrival, the hosts June & Peter greeted us. We were informed that our booking for tonight's dinner at the restaurant had been confirmed and we had a window seat that offered fantastic views of the Sunshine Coast. Our hosts would even chauffeur us to and from dinner tonight.

We were given a tour of our accommodation and the facilities. The room was very spacious and had all the mod cons you'd expect. What blew us away was the size of the bed, it was huge or apparently known as a Californian King Size bed. I loved the locally grown coffee along with the shortbread, chocolate and sweets provided in the room. The bathroom was also spacious. The room had a private porch which looked out to the impressive Sunshine Coast and beyond. Outside and around the buildings was a nice cottage garden which gave it that B&B touch despite the modern appearance of the building and rooms. Although I did not venture too far from the rooms, there is a local rainforest and walk which had I spent more time here, would definitely have explored. The common rooms looked inviting and we actually did play a game of billiards over a few beers supplied by our hosts before we headed out for dinner.

After dinner, Peter picked us up promptly from the restaurant. When we got back to our rooms, our bed was re-made and a nice chocolate gift awaited us on our pillows. The next morning, a scrumptious breakfast was served outside on our porch. The resident friendly pooch Pablo kept us company while we soaked up the morning sun and recharged ourselves for the day ahead with the delightful breakfast.

Hats off to the Eeyrie Escape owners, June & Peter (and Pablo) for their great hospitality. They knew exactly how to please their guests with a personalised service, were quite sociable and yet able to respect our privacy. We will will be recommending the Eeyrie Escape to our family and friends.

We recently stayed at the Eyrie for our second visit. This time my husband was recovering from by-pass surgery. For me the trip started as a disaster when I realised I had left most of my clothes still hanging on the door at home. Peter and June immediately offered to go and get them. However I managed without the extra gear. We could not go out to our restaurant as part of the package so June made my husband a comforting and very healthy chicken soup for the soul. As my husband's condition seemed to worsen she arranged a visit to the doctor and escorted us all the way. As usual, the food, the views, the peace were spectacular but it makes such a difference when people who are so busy running a business take the time to go that extra mile to make you feel so welcome and in a funny way, 'secure' with them.

This is our second stay at the Eyrie and the views of the Sunshine Coast never fail to impress. This visit has taken on an additional warmth that comes with staying with friends, and June and Peter will certainly go out of their way to ensure that your stay is everything that you hoped it would be.

Peter will chauffer you to a local restaurant for a great meal, although you are no less spoilt if you stay in and have a candle lit dinner in your room. Whether it is dinner or breakfast the food is beautiful and servings are more than ample. Be prepared to put on a kilo or two if you stay for a few days.

Spoil yourself with a visit to the spa, the views overlook the mountains and coast and there is no better place to enjoy a fine glass of wine. The Eyrie Escape is just that an escape from the day to day stresses and an opportunity to relax in beautifully kept surroundings and let yourself be spoilt.... don't you deserve it.

The Eyrie is 5 star in every aspect and the surroundings are only surpassed by the hospitality of the hosts.

We overnighted at the Eyrie recently. It was our second stay, and the view was just as breathtaking as we remembered.

June and Peter really looked after us well. We had a candelight dinner in our room, the food was great and we were unable to finish it! We thought dinner was good value, we bought our own wine and they had no problem serving it.

Breakfast in the sun on our porch was absolutely divine and the view was a perfect backdrop.

Highlights: a glass of champagne in the heated spa at sunset and the lovely picnic that June packed us for the following day.

We recentrly stayed at the Eyrie for a long weekend. We chose it as we couldn't get into our favourite B&B, Musavale Lodge.

The price was around the same, with us paying $240/night and staying 2 nights. We had very much looked forward to relaxing by the pool, playing billiards and all the other activities that looked so appealing on the web.

The accomodation, while being nice and clean and quite tasteful, was a bit tired, and rather more like a motel than a B&B.

We were a little dissapointed when we got there, but then we decided to go for a swim, so went to look for the pool. The pool is actually down the hill behind the house, and it is VERY worn out indeed. The water didn't seem to be sufficiently chlorinated, and we both ended up with a flu and sore throat after swimming in it. We felt it was dirty, with mould growing on tiles around the edge and just generally very rough.

The surrounds were definately not the type of inviting poolside experience we were hoping for.

There is also a spa/jacuzzi closer to the main house, which was quite nice, and has a fantastic view. The upkeep, again, could have been better though.

The food prepared by the hosts was quite delicious, and we chose to have dinner in our room on one of the nights. We couldn't fault this, except that it is perhaps a little over-priced.

We did feel somewhat pressured to purchase alcohol though, the hosts made it feel like we couldnt say no to purchasing a whole bottle of wine after we I had asked for one glass. It was much more expensive than a bottle shop.

The Eyrie does have wonderful views, and it is quite a lovely spot, we just felt it was over-priced for what it was, and certainly didn't live up to standards set by similar priced establishments in South East Queensland.

I did also find a hair in my fruit salad at breakfast, which was not a great thing!

A few things that were advertised that were not as expected: Wirless internet didnt work; Billiards room was full of stored stuff so wasnt really an option.

If you are looking for a romantic spot to spend a quiet weekend relaxing then I wouldn't say this is ideal. It would, however, be a nice spot to use as a base for exploring the Sunshine Coast Hinterland....but then again there are better places for the same price.

Based upon the approximate date of this review, we believe that much of the factual information is incorrect as follows:
The Swimming Pool. This is checked at least once a month by Network Pools for all chemical levels; and daily by one of the owners for dirt, mould etc, as one of them swims there daily without any health problems. The supposition that guests caught colds as a direct result of the state of the pool is unsustainable, regrettable though their having caught colds is.
The billiard room. No boxes were in the room in March, and are not normally stored there.
The rooms and infrastructure. Eyrie Escape is rated 5 star by AAATourism annually; since the last rating new carpets were laid. This was the only issue raised in the last review.
Wifi. Our wifi was down for several days resulting a major outage in the region, but the office system was always available to guests.
Bar costs reflect less than industry average markups, but like other 5 star accommodations they are more than bottle shop prices.
