Owner description: Kuranda Koala Gardens is situated in the heart of Kuranda and gives you the opportunity to see some of Australia's most unique wildlife up close. We have a variety of wildlife for you to see including:-Koalas: Lots of opportunity to observe our koalas doing what they do best - eating, sleeping and looking adorable. Fossil evidence shows that koalas originally lived in rainforest environments. As Australia became drier, they adapted to eat Eucalypt leaves, which replaced much of the country's rainforests.Koala Photos: Take the opportunity to 'Cuddle a Koala' and receive a great souvenir digital photo (extra cost). Kuranda Koala Gardens is one of only a handful of places in the world where you can actually cuddle a koala. Our adherence to a strict "Government Code Of Practice" ensures the health and wellbeing of our furry friends.Freshwater Crocodiles: Another Australian native - perhaps not as endearing as the Koala but a fascinating part of the eco system, is the Freshwater Crocodile. This is one of the two Australian saurians - the other being the Saltwater Crocodile. The Saltie does not function well in the cooler climes of the mountain regions but is on display at Cairns Tropical Zoo and Hartley's Crocodile Adventures.Kangaroos & Wallabies: Australia has a large variety of these macropods and you will see swamp wallabies, parma wallabies, eastern grey kangaroos and red legged pademelons amongst others. Snakes: Australia is home to many snakes, both deadly and harmless. Enjoy a unique 'up close' experience with pythons when you enter their domain in Australia's first 'Walk Through Snake House'.Wombats: This quaint marsupial is an Australian favourite. They are often playful and quick to learn. However, as they sleep quite a lot, their intelligence is often underestimated! They lay claim to being the world's largest burrowing animal and can dig up to two metres of burrow in one night.Lizards, Monitors and other Reptiles: Australia is home to an amazing selection of reptiles and there are lots on display. See Dragons and Monitors with their long forked tongues, and much more. Many of these creatures have great camouflage techniques - see what you can spot in their enclosure!Kuranda Koala Gardens is part of the Freeman Family owned and operated Wildlife Tropical North Queensland Group. Other wildlife experiences under this banner include Cairns Night Zoo, Hartley's Crocodile Adventures and Cairns Tropical Zoo.

“This place is awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2014

This place was great!!! We were able to feed kangaroos and wallabees in an open space. No fence between us and the animals. We got there when it opened and we had the whole place to ourselves. We were able to take tons of pictures with the kangaroos and wallabees. That's included in the admission price. For an extra charge, you can take a picture with a koala bear (if you pay for that at the entrance, you get a free keychain).

“Hold a Koala!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2014

This is a small zoo. Have crocodiles, with their long, thin snouts; snakes, kangaroos, wallabys, in addition to the koalas. It cost extra but you can hold a koala and get your picture taken. The koala was so-o-o-o soft. Told us their nose is very sensitive and they don't like it being touched. Good to know because they are so darned cute!

“Pictures with koalas and pythons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2014

For the price this tiny zoo is such a better value than the Sydney wildlife park. Here you get to hold (not just pet) a koala while having photos taken by a staff. They'll also use your camera to take a few pictures if you want more people in the picture, like your significant other or your child. I got my date with both a koala named Fred and a big python named Ollie. Love the pictures! The price for koala picture is $18 and $11 more to add on the python. There is more, you can hand feed the kangaroos and wallabies in an open park, no extra charge. The animals are very friendly and lounge on the grass during the day where you can pet them freely. The staff here is super friendly and takes time to explain if you ever have any questions.

“Pleasant way to spend 30 minutes or so.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2014

Koala Gardens is a small wildlife experience including crocodiles, snakes, kangaroos, wombats, and koalas of course. The animals appear to be well cared for and the enclosures clean. It is not a large area and takes approx 30 minutes to walk around and see all the attractions.

“Cuddles with koalas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2014

This was one of the highlights of our road trip in Queensland. We didn't want to spend a day in a zoo but wanted to see some Australian animals though. When I was planning our trip, I found koala gardens at the later part of our trip.
The trip to Kuranda was amazing cable car journey over the rain forest and Kuranda village itself was lovely and gave us last minute chance to do some shopping.
But my favourite thing was to cuddle a koala. He was so lovely and soft... ... and sleepy :-).
Koala gardens was like a mini zoo with some lizards, snakes crocodiles, kangaroos and wallabies which you could feed! Perfect if you don't want to spend all day in a massive zoo but want to see few local animals.
