“Beautiful property but on the wrong side of the island”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

We had a lovely stay on Magnetic Island for our 25th wedding anniversary, but as first time visitors, wished we'd been less attracted by the good rate and luxury accommodations/facilities at Peppers Resort, and opted for something pricier but less opulent on the other side of the island. Peppers is beautiful though, but it's on the shady side, and no island vibe. We didn't have a car, but used the bus to spend most of our time over at Horseshoe Bay. On the plus side,it is an easy 2 minute stroll from the ferry across to Peppers and the bus service is cheap and regular. Peppers has an excellent restaurant and bar, and the rooms are beautifully appointed. Very comfy supersized bed, very spacious room, balcony leading out to the marina (we were in a ground floor room), excellent air conditioning and lots of the little luxuries that makes Peppers a great place to stay. Unfortunately we didn't sample a swim in the gorgeous pools as although the outside temp was quite warm and warranted a swim, the water was near freezing. We did enjoy lounging poolside with a drink watching the swallows dip in and out of the water. You lose the sun early on this side of the island so not great mid-winter. Also, a lot of the rooms seemed to be apartment style / timeshare or owned and were empty which gave the resort a bit of a gloomy feel. Wonderful receptionists and restaurant/bar staff, and the breakfasts (included in the room package price) were exceptional in a fabulous setting.

Room Tip: Our standard room was top quality, large with roomy balcony, and great location alongside the marina...

Hello Nelcums,

Thank you for sharing with other travellers.

Peppers Blue on Blue is an amazingly beautiful resort, and yes the transfers to other bays is as easy as walking out the door 20 metres to a bus and you will be there in ten minutes, perfect if you are having an afternoon cocktail.

Great to read you enjoyed our 1.5 million litre lagoon pool, even if a little chilly for you.

Cheers

Had our work end of year break up......approx 60 people stayed the weekend at Peppers.
Assistance, flexibility and support during the booking were fantastic, no effort was spared. Stayed In a one bedroom unit.
Rooms soundproofed, no outside noise.
Rooms are top class, with modern fittings and a deep bathtub. Criticism....have slept in more comfortable beds.
Huge pool, lots of space, and a couple of deep plunge pools.
Breakfast buffet was very very good.....location is excellent right at the beautiful magnetic Island ferry terminal, Easy walk to shops, supermarket restaurant etc
Buffet and bar service throughout our Christmas party was top class.

Room Tip: Some two bedroom units do not have air con or fans in the second bedroom.

We just had 6 days here. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted. As we were early, there was no problems holding our baggage whilst we went for lunch and had a little walk about - whilst at lunch they notified us our room was ready. The resort is a mere 50m walk from the ferry (not 100m,), 70m walk to the IGA and car hire place, and about 400m walk to the foodstore, Thirsty camel Bottleshop, post office and other minor shops. Due to some refurb work, we were upgraded to a 2 bed unit.. overlooking the pool.. Awesome start. Nice friendly helpful staff. Lunch was nice, service was excellent and no over done. We had dinner one night.. it was fantastic quality as was the daily buffet breakfast. The service for me stood out.. perhaps because I find that service is very poor in general. However the staff at Peppers, from reception to the bar and restaurant staff should be commended on their friendliness and interaction. very attentive without being too much. The room was well appointed with everything we needed including coffee plunger and BBQ equipment. We bought food at the IGA and had a bbq dinner by the pool on 2 nights..no fuss.. really easy and the BBQ's were clean. it's pretty quiet at this time of the year on the Island, so there are not a lot of food options open at night, but the restaurant at peppers was divine. Well done peppers.

Room Tip: if you are a light sleeper, then a room away from the car park / ferry would be advisable.

We stayed in section 8 in a ground level unit with 2 beds, 2 baths. We had a view and great access to the pool and marina. The boats in the marina made for great sunset pictures. We also had breaky included. The buffet was full of variety & varied all 3 days we were there. Super friendly staff in the restaurant. Of course everything is close by but we brought a car over from Townsville. Be sure to check out all the Bays & Bungalow Bay Koala village. See the wallabies in the wild at Geoffrey Bay too. Amazing lunch at Barefoot Art Food Wine. Great experience on the island, great accommodations, with great friends!

Stayed for 2 nights in a studio room which was very comfortable & nicely decorated with a comfy bed. Found out on arrival that the whole restaurant had been booked for a wedding so dinner was being offered in a conference room. Would have been nice to know this upon booking as there are few other dining options in Nelly Bay. Ended up catching the bus to Picnic Bay & dining at the excellent Thai restaurant. Room overlooked the car park so no great view but buffet breakfast in the restaurant was great with views over the marina. The hotel pool is enormous and beautiful for a swim after dinner but with no shade would be very hot during the day.

After a week of sightseeing we were looking for a nice and relaxing hotel with pool to relax - for a reasonable rate. The eco deal (no room service) at this hotel was our choice.

What we got:
100m walk from the ferry pier- very convenient, especially with a lot of luggage.
Nice modern hotel and big, clean rooms. Huge pool with great view to the harbor.
Very good breakfast and coffee.

Wifi was not included which was disappointing.

Beaches for swimming are a bit far away if you are looking for that.

Overall a great place if you get a good and reasonable rate as we did.
Would stay here again and can recommend the place.

Well, not that Magnetic Island is very big, but Peppers Blue on Blue is the closest hotel to where the ferry docks - one minutes walk accross the car park!
The receptionists were friendly and helpful, booking us in to various tours etc., and the facilities in the hotel were first rate. Lovely bar area with decking looking out over the mooring for smart yachts and cruisers and very good dining room with excellent food.
The fabulous lagoon pool was a real treat and our room was very comfortable and spacious.
Great choice at the breakfast buffet and we had two excellent dinners in the hotel in the evening.
All in all a great place to stay as a base to discover this intriguing island.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the car park which wasn't very beautiful so perhaps ask for one overlooking...
