“Not Magnetic but Magic Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2011

My wife and I travelled 4 months up and down the East coast and for us this was the business.
A 12 room Inn with all you could ask for, comfort, amenities, friendliness (Dave and Michelle were so accomodating, it was unbelievable). The pool was so clean, constructed with convenient depths, huge brolly for the sun and comfy sunbeds made our afternoons so enjoyable. David kept us updated as to what was going on and advised us to go to various sights/places, some of which only the locals used but the classic for us was the sundown at West Point - amazingly beautiful. David and Michelle ( she is a great cook) hire out 4-wheel drive cars at good prices ( and he saved us loads of Insurance costs - just ask). On our return to Australia, this is where we will stay as long as they can accomodate us!

Room Tip: Rooms 8 and 12 are best for quietness

This place was inexpensive and so the cleanliness of the room and the quality of the room was a nice surprise! The room was self-contained, allowing us to save money by cooking our own meals. The staff were friendly and we will definately be back!

Good friendly service and a good clean basic room, close to a pub / restaurant and a few small shops.
Onsite 4wd or scooter rental was a bonus. The lovely lady owner / manager was only too happy to help with suggestions.

Close to the beach in Picnic Bay, this is a good choice for your visit to Magnetic. The rooms were clean, roomy and quiet. Staff was very friendly, and there's even a "resident" very charming possum, living in one rain drain. DVD and 4WD rental possible.

Had a great stay, helpful and friendly owner, nice clean room, quiet location, super close to beach front! And the police station, across the road!!! Our room was a package deal that includes 4WD/car rental. Owner of hotel supply a handy map of the lsland inside the 4WD. The map clearly tells you where the essential of the Island are-the supermarket, cafe, gas station and other point of interest. The 4WD was very useful and it worked out great for us to get around in, since the local bus service comes ONCE every hour (stop outside the hotel front door) NOTE: There are some very bumpy unsealed road that only 4WD can handle on the Island, local Moke car rental are not allow on unsealed roads, too dangerous. The unsealed roads lead to the Island best snorkelling site- Arthur Bay and Radical Bay, and best look out points.

Room include DVD player and small flatscreen TV, reception has DVD for hire at $2. Reception also sell snack food, cold drinks and fish bait. Beautiful red winged parrot /King parrot handing around the trees and pool.

Recently refurbished motel-style accommodation with cooking facilities in a tranquil location on the southern tip of Magnetic Island (Picnic Bay), surrounded by tropical gardens filled with noisy and spectacular birdlife. Our 1st floor room was bright, clean and spacious, the bed comfortable, and the owners friendly. There are 3 local restaurants, a pub and bottle shop within easy walking distance (no supermarket, but limited groceries can be bought at the TP Inn), and connecting buses from the ferry drop you off at the door. Although the best walking is in the NE of the Island (40 min bus journey to the Forts turnoff and Horseshoe Bay, or hire a vehicle), there is an excellent little local walk from the TP Inn up to Hawkins Point (1 hour return), and the sea front jetty area makes for pleasant strolling. The 8km road/track to West Point (behind the Inn) is walkable – admittedly nothing special but good exercise, and the final beach is worth the wait. We enjoyed our stay here and would return.

  • Liked — The room, morning birdsong, and location
  • Disliked — Fridge a bit noisy at night
