“Hope to be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013 via mobile

As very keen, but novice Australian bird watchers, we sought out some good birdwatching opportunities. Red Mill House appeared to fit the bill. We booked the 4 day bird watching package and two extra nights. This was an excellent introduction to the birds of the area. Introductory walks with our hosts Andrew and Trish, a boat trip ( where unfortunately we didn't see much because of the weather-still very beautiful ) and a full day with birder Carol Isles were all fabulous. Trish and Andrew were excellent hosts who went out of their way to ensure that they were meeting our needs. Their warmth and passion for the birds and the area added to our experience. We cannot recommend Red Mill highly enough and hope to return soon.

I am so glad and thankful for my husband 's choice of Red Mill for our stay this Summer in Caines. Trish and Andrew are like our friends and we actually look forwared to seeing them again in near future. I enjoyed watching my husband and my kids playing card and chess games in such a cosy and peaceful house. We could hear the birds, the leaves, the rain...all the natural beautiful sound.

My husband booked us into this B&B for several nights based on reviews from TripAdvisors and I'm so glad he did! Dawn and Dennis were. The perfect hosts at this charming oasis. Nothing was too much for them! Gorgeous rooms, delicious breakfasts to order, and they arranged our birding excursions as well. I can't say enough good things about this charming oasis! You're in for a treat.

My second stay at Red Mill with hosts Andrew and Trish was even better than my first, which is really saying something. My wife and our two girls along with relatives from the UK with their two boys stayed over the Easter weekend. Red Mill house is really geared for the birdwatching fraternity, and I was worried I might have some bored kids during our stay, but it was far from that. Andrew and Trish made everyone feel so welcome, that we felt it was our place. The kids loved the gardens and the pool, and I feel I may have contributed to some ornithological interest in the children. Every flying object was related back to me with exictement. We also loved the lounge area with the chess table and other games, and all sorts of books, not to mentioned the Green Tree Frogs hanging from picture frames, or hiding inside a lamp. The breakfasts were delicious and our UK guests especially loved the tropical fruit varities that Trish bestoyed upon us.Nothing was too much of a bother for our hosts, and they happily provided assistance with bookings and directions for the attractions in the Daintree and Cape Trib. We did not want our stay to end, and when we finished our trip, after also spending time in Port Douglas and Cairns, the kids voted for their favourite place of our 10 day adventure, and unanimously chose Red Mill House. Heady stuff. If you are heading up to the Daintree and are lucky enough to stay at Red Mill House you will never forget the hospitality and comfort, we wont.

Room Tip: How can you choose a good room? just book, they are all good!

My parents were visiting from the UK, so we headed up to Daintree. The Red Mill was the perfect place to stay - comfortable accommodation, delicious breakfasts overlooking the tropical rainforest garden. One bandicoot and numerous birds later...The local Croc Eye restaurant is by far the best eatery - avoid the Eco lodge at all costs. Expensive and ridiculously small portions and terrible table service. Thoroughly recommend the Red Mill and may be going back...

Room Tip: We stayed in the family double bedroom apartment which was perfect for us, although if you crave som...

On our trip to Australia we ended up at Red Mill House on random - or as it turned out - on just pure luck!
Our original plan was to drive from Cairns to Sydney, and we thought we would spend the first night somewhere north of Cairns. Then we met Trish and Andrew, the owners of Red Mill House, and ended up staying for three nights. Trish and Andrew took exceptionally good care of us the entire stay, introduced us to the local fruits and wild life, gave us tips and information about what to do - and a few basic "survival skills" (wear sting suits, sun protection and insect repellent)

During the two and a half weeks we were in Australia we experienced a lot, but what comes first to mind when we ask ourselves what we enjoyed the most, is the stay at Red Mill House - the frogs "singing" us to sleep, the breakfast with Australian coffee and the best fruit plate you can imagine, the recommendations where to eat good dinner and where to get great icecream and last but not least, the friendly atmosphere inviting to relax.

If you want to treat yourself with some guaranteed good memories, you should spend some nights in Red Mill House!!

We stayed at Redmill for 2 nights. A really lovely base from which to see Daintree. Accommodation comfortable, breakfasts excellent (with coffee on tap throughout the day) and the hosts could not be more helpful. The grounds are also lovely with a small creek in the garden which a little kingfisher frequents (beware of the mozzies if you decide to go and watch him).

Highly recommended for birdwatchers and the general population alike
