“Must do near Port Douglas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2014

We spent a wonderful full day with Juan and our 3 kids (9,5,3)
Juan was very good at explaining all what he knows about Aborigines people and their deep knowledge about Mother Nature !
We went crab hunting and then we had the pleasure to eat them during lunch break!
Juan is very good at adapting his speech to his public. It was our best day during our stay in Port Douglas.

“Juan is so knowledgeable, a fab day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014 via mobile

Juan (who has Portugese heretige) is a wonderful guide. In the morning a small group of 4 of us headed to the mangrove swamps to learn how to catch mud crabs, pick perriwinkles and mussels and learn about the best local tucker on offer on his doorstep. He is a strongly family orientated guy and has a passion for passing down Kuku Yalangi knowledge to his kids and tourists. We came back from the mangrove with a bag full of lunch including fallen coconuts and almonds and took us to his Mums house to cook up our catch on the verandah. Delicious! Be sure to try his homemade chilli dressing too. Juan showed us saw-fish and turtle shells that his family had caught for special occasions and talked of the different clans and how the olden ways had changed: it was fascinating and a side of Oz I had no clue about. In the afternoon we heard dreamtime stories, picked up strange delicious fruits and went to Mossman creek for a refreshing swim in the strong river rapids. A great day, full of new experiences, really pleased we managed to book it at such short notice. Thank you Juan!

“Personal Aboriginal Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

We had a unique and thoroughly enjoyable day with a local Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal guide Juan Walker. He gave us an experience of a lifetime as we hunted mud crabs, spearing 3 for our lunch which were deliciously prepared by Juan. His vast knowledge of the region, of his tribe and family was shared in a very interesting and interpersonal manner. We learned about and saw the lake where his grandfather would take he and his brothers and sisters to fish. He took us to meet a local artist and to see his works. The rainforest tour completed our day as Juan carefully explained and pointed out the sites not to be missed from the trees and flowers to various birds and butterflies.

Ever have a day that goes by so quickly because you lose track of time due to what you are doing? This was our day with Juan and his family. I highly recommend this day to walk about with Juan.

“Walkabout Adventures with Juan Walker - TERRIFIC!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

We had a wonderful full-day tour with Walkabout Adventures on October 20, 2013. Juan Walker is a terrific guide and made the tour through the Daintree Rainforest fun, surprising, informative and memorable. Juan is very personable - it's like talking with a knowledgable friend. He shares his knowledge of Aboriginal folk lore and provides an engaging historical background as he explains traditional rainforest and coastal habitats, food and medicine. He actually caught a large crab as he brought us along an estuary and cooked it for lunch. Delicious! (There were yummy sandwiches etc. as well, of course.) We would highly recommend him and Walkabout Adventures for an enchanting and informative glimpse into authentic Aboriginal rainforest history and culture.

“Wonderful day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013 via mobile

What a wonderful day. Our Aboriginal guide, Juan, was very personable. His knowledge of his ancestors and the Daintree area was beyond our expectations. He took us on an adventure we never expected, and was great. He took us to his parents home and shared his family experiences with us. We would highly recommend him as a personal guide to the area and of the culture. He loves what he does.
