Owner description: Small and very personal (max. 10) boat tour. Operating since 1993. Experienced, science-based information. See and do much more than on a large boats's one-hour croc-spotting tour. We go where most boats can't and see many special things that they won't. Many people have said that their tour was the highlight of their vacation. "The Nightwatchman" is a 6 metre, open-topped ,shallow draft aluminium punt with 10 very comfortable swivel seats. Powered by quiet, eco-friendly, low emission, fuel-injected "state of the art" 60 hp 4-stroke Mercury outboard motor. One of the best nature-based Daintree River Tours.

“Excellent tour, very informative and relaxed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Organising a tour with Dan was quick and easy. The boat has 10 seats, each of which swivel so you can get a comfortable view of the wildlife. We went on an evening tour which left at 5pm in the light and returned at 7pm in the dark. We really enjoyed the tour as it allowed us to see the crocs basking in the sun as well as fruit bats flying overhead after dark. Dan is extremely knowledgeable about both the wildlife and plants. He was happy to answer any questions we had and provided a very laid back personal tour. Highly recommend as an excellent way to visit Daintree River.

“Leave the packaged tours behind”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

How often does a tour operator call you by name? Dan's cruise was relaxed and informative and it is obvious that he is deeply interested in nature which shows in his extensive knowledge. For us this was a chance find on the web and we are glad we found it. As keen birdwatchers ourselves we know how difficut it is to serve up widlife encounters on demand but Dan found plenty of opportunities to expand our knowledge in the couple of hours we spent with him. Dan is an interesting and engaging character and has a quiet passion for what he does. We enjoyed our cruise and would highly recommend it. Gary & Alison.

“Wonderful time on the water!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Our afternoon ride down the river was my favorite part of Daintree (an easy drive up from Port Douglas). We chose Dan based on a recommendation in the Frommer's book and were very pleased with our experience. The boat is small so there aren't huge crowds to deal with and Dan can maneuver you through narrow waterways between the mangroves.

We saw several 3 or 4-month old crocodiles (so cute) and maybe half a dozen of the big boys, including a gargantuan male that Dan calls "Scarface". If anybody on the boat spotted something on shore, Dan would maneuver the boat over towards the bird, baby croc, etc so everyone could get a better look. We also got to learn about the rainforest and the creatures who inhabit it. Very educational!

You will need to call ahead for reservations as the ever-changing tide will dictate the schedule somewhat. Sit in the back of the boat and you'll get to ask Dan questions and hear more about this wonderful place.

Also - there is no bathroom on board so make use of the one in your hotel or the porta-potties in the parking area.

Can't recommend highly enough!

“Fun time Despite the Pouring Rain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

My family of five adults drove over to Dan's Mangrove Adventures on a rainy afternoon. When we arrived in the rain, Dan did give us the option of returning the next evening but we already were booked for diving. So, in the pouring rain, we set out on our adventure. For the first half hour of the trip, it did rain but as the sun was about to set, the rain stopped and we did have a bit of a sunset. Dan showed us many crocodiles, snakes and definitely thousand of bats. He answered many questions and was the perfect guide.

Many thanks to a great guide.

“A wonderful time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Dan gave us a great trip along the Daintree River and found plenty of birds and animals, especially crocodiles, for us to see at close range. He was generous with his time and shared his extensive knowledge with patience and good humour. He made sure we had all the time we wanted when taking photos.
