“Loved our stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

Lovely room, lovely breakfast, lovely common facilities and ambience. It is further out of Cardwell than we expected but that certainly isn't a problem as it really was a wonderful, comfortable, relaxing place to stay.

Stayed for two nights at family run Mudbrick Manor. We highly appreciated the social and helpful staff as well as the spacious rooms and the wounderful garden. The English breakfast is another highlight. We highly recommend Mudbrick manor to anyone that is hiking the Thorsborne trail and is in need for comfortable accomodation before as well as after the trail.

We stayed here prior to walking the Thorsborne trail and were impressed by the hospitality. The rooms are unique and cosy but the real selling point of this hotel was its co-owner Bev. For an extra $10 each we were cooked a proper hot breakfast in the morning before the hike. Bev offered to let us leave our car there while we were hiking (over four nights) which we took up, so her daughter dropped us at the boat. We met another couple who had stayed there and'really enjoyed the experience.

This B&B is enough reason on its own to visit Cardwell. Adobe built round central courtyard with fountain. Huge, comfortable lounge rooms filled with antiques and memorabilia. Large well furnished rooms with wood beam ceilings. Comfortable beds, efficient showers, delicious cooked breakfast, who could ask for more. Well there is dinner if you order it in advance. Prices are very reasonable. The people I breakfasted with were back for their seventh stay. Given the chance, I will be back.

Room Tip: They are all good

The effort to create such unique accommodation just 10 minutes outside Cardwell is very inspiring. The hosts were truly wonderful providing invaluable information on the area and specifically knowledge of The Thorsborne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island which we hiked.
The Mudbrick Manor is a place where time flows by effortlessly with rooms are full of character, especially the common areas of the 'Honesty Bar', Lounge & Dining areas.
Overall this style of accommodation would suit those who want something different to your normal B&B with little treasures of days gone by popping up everywhere you look.
As a starting and finishing point for our trekking adventure on Hinchinbrook Island it was perfect and we couldn't have been happier.

2nd visit to the Manor, it is just tranquility. This property opened in the early 2000's only has 5 suites, all themed around an earlier time and it makes it so earthy. The welcome by the hostess was nice, we had our choice of rooms. The AC needs to be turned on very early as it takes a long time for these units to cope with these generous sized rooms rooms. The gardens could do with a freshen up and the pool was being renovated, but still a very tranquil setting. Recommended for 2.

Room Tip: Let Bev know well in advance that you want Room 2, 3 or 4 and have them turn the AC on about 6 hours...

We had some trouble finding Mudbrick Manor in the dark, but when we got there the place is absolutely fabulous. Lots of old things in the rooms and truly a place with soul. Ken is also charming and always helpful.

Around Cardwell there are some amazing places, like Murray River. Absolutely worth a visit.
