“Nice, comfortable and enjoyable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

I stayed at kookaburras on my own in a one bedroom Donga, which had air con, small plasma tv, wardrobe.. It was small but suited my needs at the time, the room was right next to the kitchen and bathroom facilities. The owners I found very pleasant and made me feel welcome at all times I would have a chat with them when I saw them round the campsite etc. there is a very nice swimming pool, which is enclosed i spent most days there to cool down from the heat. unfortunately I had to leave due to having no work in Cardwell, it's a small town with very little to do so I had to leave.the owners refunded me my money back for the rent on my room , no problem and also printed off directions for my next destination.also the cleaners were very friendly, the kitchen and bathrooms were clean always. Will revisit if not just to go back and see them and stay on the campsite. Happy backpacker.

We needed a bed the next night.........so I found a "twin roomette" in this van park in the centre of Cardwell on the internet. We just needed a bed with linen and a pillow........PLUS an air conditioner for December's hot weather. And I suppose we go it.
A little rough around the edges but clean, tidy PLUS friendly staff to great and direct us.
The advert DID say that these rooms were very suitable for fishermen, and the advert was NOT wrong. But we survived, sleeping in a "donga" style room with many other working men around us in their little rooms. WE went to the pub for tea.........not too hard to do....... and we had an early night in preparation for an early start next day. Another interesting experience to mark down!!

Room Tip: Don't go for the cheapest priced TWINETTE. Aim higher if possible!!

We stayed at this caravan park in our own caravan (powered site) for 3 nights. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The amenties were older but were always neat, clean and tidy. The caravan park is on the highway, but we found that there was little traffic noise during the night. The park was good value for money and we would happily recommend this park to others.

stayed with my siblings in 3 cabins over 2 nights.... accommodations were basic but cosy with all the amenitites you need..

only problem I had was the bedding was not 100% cotton and as i have an allergy to Polyester, i had to use my own bedding...

Stayed here for one night on a trip from the Gold Coast to Port Douglas, the people in reception were very friendly and helpful, we travel with 3 boys, so the little cabin for a great rate was wellcome. Everything you needed was supplied, across the road from the beach, and a short walk to the shops. Cardwell is probably somewhere for a long stay, but the Kookaburra had plenty to keep you happy, although the internet was very poor so some work needed there ! all in all a good choice,

Room Tip: Get a cabin close to the amenties

I cannot fault the facilities at Kookaburra holiday park, however, the owners are disgraceful, ill mannered individuals with a vulgar vocabulary intended to insult people! As a backpacker, I decided to stay at Kookaburra holiday park as it was clean, had good facilities and they were willing to help us find work! This was ideal for the 1st 4 weeks of my stay. They then decided to become awkward, dishonest and highly insulting!!! Situations in Cardwell changed and a lot of people were looking for long term accommodation, so the owners of Kookaburra Holiday Park decided that these workers would bring them more business than the backpackers so began making up excuses and scenarios as reason to make us backpackers HOMELESS! They swore repeatedly, branded some of us as 'troublemakers', threatened us and threw money in our faces when we demanded a refund. As Backpackers, yes at times we were noisey and playful but always moved along when requested as we were aware, at times, there were families staying at the park. We always paid our rent on time, kept the facilities clean and tidy and generally respected Kookaburra and it's idyllic location. We were treated disgustingly and regret bringing business their way by talking so highly of them to fellow backpackers. Yes Kookaburra may come across very helpful and always provide service with a smile but don't be fooled because as soon as something better comes along and they can get their greedy little paws on more money they will not think twice to discard you like an old newspaper!!!!!!!! These people do not deserve the kindness of travellers looking for a little home comfort. As any other backpacker will tell you, everywhere you visit is based on experience and what has been experienced by myself and others at Kookaburra Holiday Park is one to be forgotten and NEVER re-visited!!!

We have spent most of the Winters for the last seven years at the Kookaburra Holiday Park in Cardwell which has everything you need whether it's fishing, bowling, golfing or relaxing. The park is beautifully maintained and the owners create a friendly family atmosphere . We have met some great people there and look forward to catching up each Winter. The weather is a great improvement on Adelaide's at that time so come and join us. We keep coming back !

Room Tip: We take our van.
