“Perfect Rainforest Retreat in Cape Tribulation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for my Birthday and had a fantastic time at Ferntree Rainforest Resort. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the rainforest 2 storey garden loft room is set amongst the trees and has a verandah where we could drink wine whilst listening to the sounds of the rainforest. The restaurant is well priced and the pools were excellent.
The location is 5 minute walk to the main restaurant's in town PK's and Whet. Also to get to Jungle Surfing and horse riding is really convenient. The beach is also a 10 minute walk away.
This is perfect for someone who wants to get away for the weekend or also backpackers (dorm rooms are also available). Would stay here again in a heartbeat,

Room Tip: Go for the Garden Loft Room for sure.

Options when travelling north of the Daintree River are fairly limited as a family of 4. Ferntree is your best bet as it does have the garden loft options which are a duplex building with each unit having an upstairs (by ladder to two single beds) and downstairs of a bedroom with small fridge, chaise bench and king bed (2 singles pushed together), as well as a large adjacent bathroom. The units are not self contained however and do not include television in rooms. Being an independently owned and operated resort you do not expect the same attention to detail you get with the chains however the price was extreme given the condition of the units which would be over 20 years old and which have seen very little in the way of maintenance in the intervening years. The split unit air conditioner in our unit had been decommissioned and a noisy rusting window rattler installed instead which made the night uncomfortable because of the reliance on fans and the lack of screens on windows. We had 5 chairs on our deck of which 4 were useable, so maybe remove one or have it fixed. The lawns had not been mown in a while and the entry from the nearby carpark involved negotiating your way through an abandoned building. There were positives; the pizzas from the Cassowary Cafe were great, the pool was cool under the trees despite the December heat, the included breakfast was very welcome and whilst basic fare it did hit the spot, and the staff were pretty good - Kevin really did try and give everyone a run down on the local attractions. It was good to have free wifi and the communal area with activities but it did give you the impression that the resort was more backpacker than eco village. In the end I think everyone needs to know what they are paying for, and this was not what it was necessarily purported to be. We paid less per night in Palm Cove for dual key self contained for the 4 of us in a 4 star resort. Remoteness generally means you'll end up paying more, but these rooms felt like a 2 star motel in a 5 star setting.

We booked this looking for a little luxurious retreat in the rainforest, and unfortunately the room was not what we were led to believe by the description. It was smaller than a hotel room, and not even a tv in the room. The bed was quite hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was small and quite outdated. There weren't even any pictures on the walls!
Everything else was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful and the setting was beautiful. The cassowary cafe was a gorgeous place for breakfast. I would recommend if you want a nice setting but aren't expecting luxury rooms!

I stayed a night at the Ferntree Rainforest Resort as part of an overnight tour from Cairns up to Cape Tribulation. As a solo backpacker, the resort was exactly what I needed after weeks of staying in youth hostels and campgrounds—a relaxing, clean, affordable rainforest getaway. Ferntree has two beautiful outdoor pools to enjoy, and it is just a short walk to the beach. It was definitely nice to "unplug" for a while in the remote Daintree Rainforest, but Ferntree offers the only free-wifi in the area to its guests. I had dinner and continental breakfast at the Casuary Cafe, and conveniently booked my Jungle Surfing trip with the staff at the front desk. The management and staff were friendly, and all in all I had a great stay. I would recommend this resort to families, couples or solo travellers who are looking for a relaxing rainforest getaway!

Set amongst beautiful trees with heaps of established walking trails nearby. The hosts were friendly and helped with anything we needed. Room was great- clean, aircon, fans, fridge, tea/coffee. The restaurant was excellent- best meals we had all holiday. Continental Breakfast was excellent to start our family off for the day. Kids spent heaps of time in the lagoon style pool with trees and ferns overhanging - really in the heart of the rainforest. Highly recommended.

Ferntree is right across the road from the beach (3 minute walk) and has a great games room and awesome accom in the rainforest ! It seems to cater from backpackers to motel rooms. The restaurant was awesome value and the service in the restaurant was great . Great value for Money right in the heart of cape tribulation. !!

Room Tip: Loft rooms for Families !!

I recently stayed at the Ferntree Rainforest Resort for 2 nights with my teenage sons. We had a lovely stay and found the resort to be very clean and the staff very helpful. The two swimming pools were great and the resturant was really nice. I would definitely stay here again!
