“Great place to view wildlife in a wonderful setting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2014

We stayed here for two nights on a wildlife tour of Queensland. The location is excellent for wildlife. There is a viewing platform where honey is rubbed onto two trees each night to attract wildlife. We had to be patient but were rewarded with great sightings go Long-nose Bandicoots and Sugar Gliders. Both were close enough for good pictures. On one morning we had a male Victoria Riflebird displaying on our balcony.
Our host John Chambers was very knowledgable and keen to help us find the species that we wanted to see. His wife and children help him to run the lodges. A real family business.
They will also do a free wash of clothing for you, which when you're travelling is very helpful.
Our accommodation was spacious with all the equipment needed to self cater. The cabins aren't five star luxury but adequate.
We would have liked to stay longer but our schedule wouldn't allow it. If you're interested in wildlife this is a great place to stay.

Chambers is tucked away on a few acres in a patch of rainforest in the Atherton Tablelands and is just an excellent place to see wildlife plus a great base to explore the surrounding area. We had a self-catering cabin which was well appointed, warm and cosy (albeit basic - this is not a 5 star resort and not intended to be!) and had a big balcony overlooking the rainforest. John, who runs the place, is incredibly knowledgeable about wildlife and even 'though we came with a long wish list he pretty much directed us to everything we wanted to see. He was very patient, sized up exactly the kind of people we were and put together great itineraries through the region. At Chambers itself there are lots of animals and birds including a sugar lick in the evning which brought in sugar gliders, possums and bandicoots. Then on the final morning with a flutter of wings, a Victoria's riflebird came and perched on our railings, posing while we took pictures. Magical.

Room Tip: We told John we were excited about the wildlife and he put us in a room with a balcony really close...

A beautiful place to stay, next to lake Eacham so we would have a swim in the lake each afternoon. Room are basic but clean, we stayed with our two boys in one cabin plenty of space. Loved the nocturnal animal viewing, saw sugar gliders and bandicoots. made to feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble, a wonderful stay, we will definitely return.

A short drive from Lake Eachum (great swimming BTW) is Chambers Wildlife Lodges. The name says it all. Each unit is well equipped with kitchenette, TV, wireless internet and comfortable chairs all snuggled into the forest. The best part is the night viewing of creatures. Striped possums and Sugar Gliders a meter away make for outstanding photos of wild animals and a bandicoot scampered between our legs. Just magic.
John and his wife could not be more accommodating. I absolutely recommend this place for the nature lover who still enjoys the "creature" comforts of home.

Room Tip: A private cabin is available but we were the only guests that night so no problems with noise.

I've stayed here twice now. It's off the road, so there's no road noise. You can stay in your room, leave the windows open and just enjoy the wonderful rainforest sounds. I loved being woken each morning to the natural sounds of birds and wildlife. The rooms are basic and simple, it's the atmosphere that makes it superb. I'll be staying there next time I'm up that way.

Nothing fancy but nice rooms with great new beds. Fully equipped kitchens. Grounds full of birds with night feeding of bandicoot, sugar gliders and opossums. Note no food but fine nearby restaurants. No AC but not needed at 3,000 ft.

Go here for the wildlife and escapism, not for a luxury retreat. We were there in rainy season, (but were blessed width good weather) and based on reviews we expected damp and musty smells, but experienced none - our lodge had new flooring, and bedding was dry, clean and comfortable. John was a wonderful host, very kind and informative. We knew what to expect; a slightly tired and and retro eco camp for adults but were very glad of it - we felt a world away from our recent business stint in Melbourne! We saw pademelons and their young, ring-tailed possums and sugar gliders feeding off the honey-laced trees, and then ventured into the forest to admire the bio-luminescent fungus. We were awoken in the morning by a kookaburra right outside our lodge who stayed long enough for us to get some great close-up photos. We attempted one of the overgrown paths and were rewarded with a sighting of an eastern water dragon, though did get shredded by barbed vines! Lake Eacham is very close by, we had it all to ourselves for a gorgeous morning swim and snorkel - a great time of year to visit if you are lucky with the weather.
